Welcome!

Really need to know your budget? Planning to buy or rent? Max commute time you will allow?

Not much bad in that area. Good people on that side.

I would say to look in Keller, the far north parts of North Richland Hills, and Roanoke. There are several large, master planned communities up there that are very family-oriented.

Avoid far north Fort Worth if you can. The city services are getting better, but there are still few parks, and reports of slow police/fire response times.

Depending on budget and convenience of short commute the other side of the freeway may work - Sendera, Willow Ridge, Tehana Ridge, ... even Saginaw. Check tax rates before committing. Schluter Elementary / Homepage

We definitely need to know your budget.

High school for your 14 year old will likely play a big role in your decision. We are lucky in this area to have more than several great school districts with a great selection of programs beyond athletics at the high school level and large course offerings including pre AP and AP classes.

I would encourage you to look at the district as a whole, and also community infrastructure and support of the schools (beyond just the varsity football team). When looking at the school district, check into HOW and WHY they are integrating technology into education. It's not enough to throw a class set of ipads at kids. Are they still spending class time reading aloud and writing (they should be)?

I don't know anywhere in FW that you will get a nice apt for $1000/month. At best, it would be a one-bedroom with some type of move-in discount.
