Hello-
I am trying to get information on the Keller school district. My children would be attending Shady Grove Elementary next year. I've heard pros and cons about the district i.e overcrowding, low SAT scores, etc. I do not know if I need to be looking at private schools or if this school district will satify our educational goals for our children. I know I will receive varying opinions so if there are some web sites (i know greatschools.org) you can supply i would truly appreciate it. Thanks a lot! Lam... |

It's a good school, I haven't heard anything negative about it.
I don't know where you got your stats for low SAT scores, but Keller HS (where Shady gove feeds into) Has ACT results higher than the state and national average. The overcrowding issue is at the HS level, the HS will open up next fall and that should ease the growing pains. 500 students that were scheduled to attend Keller HS will now go to Central. I am very pleased with all the lower schools, my eldest is in MS and she is taking all AP classes and while she was ahead in a few (transition from VA) she was right on target with Algebra and English. Spanish she was way ahead, NOVA schools start with spanish in K. The 2nd and 5th grader seem right on target. since your kids are elementary age I would test the waters and see how you like the schools, by 5th grade (intermediate school) if you are not pleased then you can seek out private schools. Thier are pleanty around. as i stated in a privious post based on living in 3 stats and 3 different school districts I would give Keller a solid 8. Yes, there are better school districts out there but there are far more that are not as good. hope this helps |

shady grove is top rated by TEA--long time principal retired last year I think and lots of the teachers there are longtime that might be retiring soon which could change things but it is pretty nice area--fairly stable housing w/o apartments from what I can tell...

i have 2 kiddos that are at independence elementary and i think your perception will be more with the teacher than with the whole system. i have only had 1 teacher that i was not too fond of and that was bc she didnt care at all. she was use to teaching older children and didnt understand kindergarten level. i had problems with some of the books(sex education that a parent had put out on the shelf while helping the librarian) they were allowing the children to read and that was remedied immediately. in fact any problem or concern i have taken to anyone has been taken care of. my daughter is so far ahead that the teacher has her helping the other kids. it will really depend on the teacher. any questions dont hesitate to ask btw mine are in K and 1st. good luck!
