Moving to Fort Worth is driving me crazy
Hello,
I live in Houston and I am moving to Fort Worth on March 15th. I see mainly bad reviews about the apartments in downtown from apartment.com and have no idea where the good or bad areas are in Fort Worth.
I plan to rent first then buy.
I am being offered a brick house for 975 in Benbrook. The woman who offered it tells me it is only ten to 15 minutes away from downtown but it looks at least 30.
I have another at the Cumberland at Ridglea which is about ten minutes away from downtown but I have read reviews that it is in a bad area.
My job is downtown on Throckmorton. What has anyone heard about the downtown apartments? Area there any place privately owned like an upstairs apartment in a building that has a business on the first floor?
What is Fort Worth like? I have only been there three about five times, saw what I liked, and friends tell me that I am lucky to move there.
One thing I do not like is that people think Fort Worth is part of Dallas. Like I am going to drive from Dallas to Fort Worth every day. Some real estate agents are stupid.
Here is my ad from Craig's list I hope that you think it is funny:
The perfect apartment
Since it looks like I may be moving to cow town USA on the ides of March I thought I would write about what kind of apartment I would like to have.
I am looking for an Apartment. I have just signed with a company in downtown Fort Worth at 100 Throckmorton. I will need to move on March 15th 2008. I am looking for an apartment around the nine hundred dollar range with a good size kitchen since I enjoy cooking.
I figure I could live in a one or two bedroom apartment; I am receiving a 37% raise to move and am so excited my head is spinning. I am paying 878 for rent right now with no problem and with a car note, so I am looking at $900 per month or perhaps a little more if the place is nice.
I am looking for a place with ambience, preferably an old building, cookie cutter apartments seem to lack character, and I would appreciate a fireplace. I was looking mostly at the downtown area of Fort Worth but may prefer somewhere else. Since I have only been downtown and to the stockyards in Fort Worth I do not know much about Fort Worth except that the people are friendly, the women are beautiful plus they smell nice.
I have a Jeep Wrangler with a soft top so I would prefer parking in a secure area preferably covered. I like loft apartments with the bedroom on a higher level. High ceilings are great. I love windows and views but I also must have a way to shade or blind the windows just in case I have one of those beautiful Fort Worth women over and want to kiss her in a romantic manner.
Being very quite I enjoy quite neighborhoods and quite neighbors, preferably females because they tend to be quieter than men, plus women are friendlier and smell nice. I also am an amateur writer and like peace and quite when I write so noisy places are off limits unless it is because I am next to a college sorority or Divorced Women’s club. I looked at the Depot apartments but was bothered that it was close to railroad tracks.
I prefer showers and not baths, unless I am joined by a woman than a bath is all right, and bathroom space can be small because I hardly spend a lot of time in there after all, but I do like huge living rooms and Kitchens. I love to cook and want at least two large burners on the stove. One large burner and three small crooked burners suck.
Hardwood floors are great and I do like living on the top floor because I do not like hearing someone’s feet on my ceiling like some kind of invisible spider man crawling through my place.
I have heard that lofts in the downtown area are nice and would consider those types of apartments. I love wide-open spaces, brick walls, and old buildings.
I like grocery stores that have organic food and to hang out in a club with live jazz bands so it would be nice to be close to those kinds of places, and a gym too, but it is not a necessity.
Yes I am serious about getting an apartment in Fort Worth. Please forgive my attempt at humor but how often does a person get a 37% raise and will have to move on March 15th. I realized I used I a lot in this post but after all this post is about what I want in an apartment.
This post is way to long!

^^^^Benbrook truly is only about a 15-20 minutes drive to DTFW.
Cumberland at Ridglea is located across from the Como neighborhood, which is less than desirable, but it is also located adjacent to many nice FW neighborhhods. It is also in any area that is seeing some new development, and is within walking distance to the Village at Camp Bowie, which is a mixed-use neighborhood. I would consider that complex a pretty safe bet.

If it's not too late, look North of Fort Worth in the Keller/North Fort Worth area. Nice, safe area and also only 15 minutes drive to downtown. Traffic can be nasty in the morning on I-35, but not any worse than coming from Benbrook.

North Fort Worth
My searches have mainly been west and downtown. I will probably go to Fort Worth during the coming weekend.
Thanks for the replies!

I used to live at Constellation Ranch, which is on the White Settlement part of FW. It's a relatively new apt. complex w/ gated entry and some apts. have attached or detached garages. Good luck w/ your apt. search.

Thanks all,
I am making appointments for the 23 of Feb. I have an appointment for The Old Electric building. Although it may turn out to be too pricy for me at 1295 it is on the top floor and a two bedroom apartment.
I also look in the areas outside of dowtown that you have written about. Thank you

Caveat about downtown Ft. Worth living: you will frequently have to drive out to other areas of town for necessities such as groceries etc. Of course if you live in those neighborhoods you will have to drive into downtown for work, so maybe it balances out.
