I think a taxi would cost about $25 there and the same price back, for a total of $50. I've taken a taxi from the airport home before and it's about the same distance. I think give or take ten dollars either side of that would be about right. At night, the drive there wouldn't be a problem at all. It only takes about 10 - 15 minutes to get to downtown FW from here.

There is a pretty extensive rail system here in the metroplex (mostly in Dallas), but there is a train terminal in South Hurst that connects you to that network.

If you REALLY want to take a tour of the area, it has been completely mapped out by google's street view feature. You can cruise down every road in the neighborhood, or all over the city. Get in there and play around with it, it's fun!

I was just thinking the same thing myself! No, what I meant by getting to know the area is if you go to Google Maps and click on street view, you can literally drive through each and every neighborhood in DFW. Check it out, it's awesome! I can drive through my neighborhood and anywhere in the metroplex. It's good for people that live far away and want to check out what the area looks like.

They area able to do this because they (google) have sent out trucks with cameras mounted on top (360 degree view, even up and down). It's one of the coolest things on the Internet. Most cities are not as well covered as DFW.

Awesome, I'll check out the "virtual drive" feature of Google. When I lived in NJ, I explored my local neighborhood by biking around. Lots of fun and good exercise, not to mention learn of some shortcuts.

not a fan of biking on these roads
Biking is a good way to get hit by a car if you are not careful where you are riding
many of the roads in the Mid-Cities do not have proper bike lanes==bike riders ride in car lane--slow traffic--can be hazard for themselves and others--

Do these streets not have sidewalks?

Speaking of which, FW sent a link to a Web survey in the last water bill statement about biking. I responded that we need the city to be more bike-friendly. Hopefully others did the same.

So... as if this thread weren't large enough... I'm loving it down here so far!

I tried the On The Border that was recommended and it was great - I'm assuming it's a chain, but I had never heard of it before. Next up is Abuelo's! I'm told that's pretty decent.

I also checked out that Seekers coffee house this past Friday, and while it was a nice place, I don't think it's for me. I'm not really a "religious" person persay, and I definitely felt a little out of place. :P

One thing I am having trouble finding is a good place to just sit down and grab a beer. I have seen a couple chain restaurants that I could probably go to, but I'm looking for something with a less corporate feel. A friend of mine that lives in Houston drove up to hang out for the weekend and I felt bad because I didn't even know where to take him to grab a couple drinks. We were tossing around going down to Sundance Square, but it's a bit far to go for just a couple drinks. Are there any bars in NRH or Hurst?
