Husband was offered a job in Bridgeport. We're looking for somewhere within 40 miles. Good schools. We'll probably rent first. We can afford around $1,600-$1,800 a month.

Any suggestions? Places to stay away from?

I don't know anything about the school district in Bridgeport itself. However, Northwest ISD is generally recommended as a good (and growing!) district. According to their boundary map, you could look around Rhome which would be the western side of the district with an easy commute to Bridgeport. Here is the Northwest ISD page: http://www.nisdtx.org/

In the About section you can find attendence boundaries and under About/District Facts you can find a district map.

I agree. Look along 114 near Rhome, and anything west of I35w.

Don't have to answer but what business in Bridgeport?

That just seems really out by itself...some oil/gas production companies work out of there and small retail, local commercial...
Where are you moving from to go there?

I've lived in & around Bridgeport for the past 20 years. There is virtually no crime in Wise County compared The Metroplex. Here, we can put decorations out in our yard and not chain them down. The odds of them getting stolen are very slim. Here, we don't lock our doors during the day. The cops here are nice. They don't have chips on their shoulders, you aren't automatically a criminal justt because they pulled you over. There is some shopping & dining here. You won't need to drive to Fort Worth or Denton, but you will want to sometimes. There's a lot we don't have out here. We're rural. No shopping malls, no department stores other than Walmart & Beall's. Restaurants you've heard of consist of Chili's & IHOP, although we have many fast food restaurants. No water parks. Tons of wildlife. Deer everywhere. I once counted 50 turkeys come up from the creek in my back yard. Roadrunners are very common. Red birds, coyotes (they don't bother anyone), bobcats (we rarely catch a glimpse), armadillo & opossum are very common.
I grew up in Haltom City. I am posting this from North Richland Hills. I am 53 years old and have lived and worked all over The Metroplex all of my life.
If you'll be working in Bridgeport, living in Boyd, Runaway Bay, Decatur or Chico are all convenient. It's kind of a ling drive from Rhome to Bridgeport. I strongly suggest you rent a house in one of the cities I suggested so you can experience life in Wise County. A lot of people move up here from the Metroplex & don't ever move back. Rhome & Newark are in Wise County but they are far enough south that you don't really get the flavor of Wise living down there. My top suggestion for you is Decatur.
This part of North Texas offers a very vast area of housing convenient to any and every thing you could ever want to live near, should you choose to leave the laid back country life.
I love to travel, so I believe an added bonus to living in North Texas is how many places you can go to in a day, or a 3 day weekend. For instance, you can visit Graceland or check out the San Antonio Riverwalk. Oklahoma City offers a 3 hour cruise on a nice air conditioned tour vessel down the Columbia River. The world's largest casino is just a few hours away. There is a little bit to see in Amarillo. We"ve got The Alamo. New Orleans is close. Galveston Island is fun. You can sit on tbe beach in Corpus Christie on July 4th & watch them shoot fireworks over the famous Grey Ghost. And best of all, I live only 8 hours from my favorite destination, Branson, Missouri.
Welcome to Wise!

Bridgeport itself is probably a nice place to live.
You'll also have some options at Runaway Bay, Decatur, Rhome.
Unless you want to move to the big city.
