Rendon is in the Mansfield school district attending Legacy High School that just opened up in 9/07. So you'll be paying MISD school taxes which are high but probably par w/Keller, Grapevine.
Centrally located between Burleson/Crowley and Mansfield, but there's even less to do in Rendon than in Mansfield.
Any specific questions, feel free to pm me.

Rendon is pretty trashy. It has the one main road going through it which is 1187. It has one elementary school, a volunteer fire department, several beer joints. They do not have a post office, the mail comes through the Burleson post office. It is in the Mansfield school district which is high dollar taxes. There used to be no eating places in Rendon at all, except for Fay's, where roaches would fall off the ceilings onto the tables they were so bad and still the locals went there to eat. The main hub of Rendon would be the intersection of 1187 and Rendon Rd. where there are two service stations sitting kitty corner, and the other two corners consisted of a graveyard and kitty corner from that was what use to be a vacant lot where people would sit old cars for sale but now it has been taken over by a construction company that is oil field related and they are using it to housed workers in fifth wheel camper trailers and park heavy equipment for the gas boom that is going on around here. They now have an italian place that's on 1187, further west is a temporary building that sells hamburgers, etc. and further down new Sonic and on down a small cafe. Further east on 1187 there are a couple more stations, mainly beer stops, a mexican stand that sells tacos, etc. , firework stands all over the place. It had an old skating rink, but it has been clsed forever. There were a lot of small buildings that were used for gaming stops until the cops began raiding them and shutting them down. There are a few more businesses, not much though, two places that buy scrap metal, a building where they hold auctions, I believe Rendon Burgers closed, but there are some places by it that sell things, one is a lawnmower place. To buy groceries you would have to go into Mansfield or Burleson. They put some real nice homes in a subdivision on Hopper and they are now building new homes across from the elementary school. It's strange, I know I wouldn't want to live there.

builders bought cheap land--building homes on half acre to acre lots--Mansfield schools are decent--so that is the attraction
people are ignoring the negatives regarding issues like the volunteer fire dept and the lack of building code/restrictions thinking that over time the bad areas will be bought and converted---
that may or may not happen

I know that in the Tuscany Valley development there are like 5-6 home listed for sale on MLS--that would not be a good sign to me--
there is another subdivision we looked at called Cabot Estates out that way--
some of the homes are in foreclosure--the subdivision has streets that are in horrible shape and the area around it looks really scary--yet people have bought homes and are living in them--

if you don't care about your neighbors or property values, you could buy land there and put a double wide on it--that is what lot of the people do--

Unhappy Scarry!

Thanks a lot for the information!
I guess I will keep on looking at the Keller and Grapevine areas and just visit my brother in Mansfield. Are the schools better in Keller/Grapevine , than in Mansfield?

My daughter's best friend moved from Burleson to Grapevine. She really likes it there and likes the school. She's a senior this year. I remember all of these areas when they were just small farming communities. Now they're thriving towns, except for Rendon, of course. Grapevine has a lot going for it, a lot of activities, kind of a California flair anymore. I know some people who bought a home in Keller, it is nice over there, they really like it. Mansfield has some nice schools, nice subdivisions. It has the old section of town, but has really grown. Close in to Arlington, doesn't take long to get to Dallas or Foirt Worth.

Default Rendon

wonder if all the bashers even live here. I do, have for some 25 years after moving from Arlington. Could have moved anywhere in the MetroPlex. It was not that tough to see in the late 70's the growth in Tarrant County was going to be north. Of course I never treat my home as an investment for growth except for my family I am so glad i live on a 4 acre park with over 500 trees. The only caveat would be the school district's Everman and Mansfield share the rolls. The Rendon Fire department is first class group excellent. Government "less is best" my savings on taxes more than makes up for the double dipping of fees in "the more civilized" area's. All this and I can see downtown Cowtown in my rearview mirror as I park. Come to think of it there is no decent cable or high speed internet. Maybe I'll sell for a half million and move to a internet cafe in Colllllleyvillllle.

Technically I live in Rendon, but my address is Burleson. There is pretty much nothing to do here, but that's why I love it! We are in the Mansfield school district and have nothing but good things to say about Tarver-Rendon Elementary. We're 15 minutes from either Burleson or Mansfield for shopping or dining out. Of course there are a few trashy, run down spots but you'll find that everywhere! The only things I don't like about Rendon is no high speed internet and those ugly rigs that are going up everywhere. There are some beautiful homes being built just around the corner from me; Santa Fe I think it's called. Sadly, we are about to sell our place (hopefully) and move to LA because of my husband's job.

What's up with the Rendon haters...it's a great place to live. I guess city folk just don't understand. I've lived in the country most of my life and moving to the Rendon area is as close to the city as I'll ever get. Rendon is an old community with a lot of history. Yes there are many small "hole-in-the-wall" places to do business, as I like to call them. A lot of the times those are the best kind! I've never eaten at Fay's so I can't say anything about the food... but is it really necessary to be so negative about the cafe in such a public place. The people in Rendon are nothing but nice. The schools are excellent. It is irritating that someone has been discouraged from moving to the area just by what has been posted here by these urbanites. And for what it's worth should we really be listening to people who use the term "kitty corner"????? These stereotypes are uncalled for as well. I do not live in a double wide, my neighbors are fantastic and I have a very high property value. I guess what I'm tring to say is these people are talkin' out of their you-know-what!

well I think some are discouraging the OP from Rendon because of this statement in thier first post

Quote:
I have a brother that lives in Mansfield but it seems that there is really nothing to do in that area.
And since Mansfield is bigger than Rendon...if they felt NOTHING was going on in Mansfiled they would be bored in Rendon as well.

It seems what the OP wants is to live in area like Grapevine without the price it would take to get .5 acre or bigger.
