Default Lake house near Fort Worth?

We are contemplating a move to FW from Australia. (My sis and mom live there). We will likely live near TCU - perhaps Ryan Place.

My question is - can someone point me in the right direction for a possible lake house? By that I mean a vacation home on a lake - within 2 hours drive (on a Friday PM) of TCU. Somewhere to have a canoe and swim with the kids and have a bbq. Breathe some fresh air. Walk to the coffee shop ideally.

Budget would be $150K or less (hopefully less). Prefer non-motorized lakes if those exist (i.e., no speed boats or jet skis whipping by).

Thanks for your help.

Very difficult to achieve in that price range however, there are a handlful of fixer uppers by Granbury Lake in Granbury and a couple in by Lake Worth and Eagle Mountain Lake.

might consider just river frontage land if you are not doing skiing--just want to kayak/canoe and have a nice view...
there is plenty of water within a 2 hr drive of FTW
Google a map
Lake Possum Kingdom (some lots are leased not free-hold), Weatherford, Ray Roberts, Kiowa, Palo Pinto, Pat Cleburn, Alvarado, Squaw Creek Rez,--
you can't really get waterfront at Benbrook from what I know
those are on FTW side--
on Dallas side (which makes the time a little more iffy on a Friday)
Cedar Creek, Joe Pool, Bardwell Lake by Ennis, Lake Tawakoni, Richland Chambers, Navarro Mills
Cedar Creek is very busy lake on weekends--lots of boat traffic and it is fairly narrow
Richland Chambers is wider
Lake Fork is more than 2 hrs by Google time...Lake Ray Hubbard is pretty busy as well in Garland/Rockwall area

Lake Whitney which is a beautiful lake is about at the maximum drive time--and most places around there are expensive
try this site Lakehouse.com Home Page real estate, lakefront properties, lake property, lake homes for sale, waterfront properties, lakefront, waterfront
lets you search by lake, by distance for rentals or sales or just lots

Thanks so much for the ideas. I will check those out. A lake/river "shack" would be fine at this point - does not need to be a fancy house -just a way to get out of the city and get fresh air. I would say "walk to coffee shop" is not really needed. Just meant a lake that has a small town nearby to grab quick supplies.

I was browsing another post I put up last week here and noticed someone is looking for a home in the area.

Ive just listed mine about 3wks ago. Its a bit more than what your looking for but its only 4yrs old and in very good shape. Its about 1mile from the local boat ramp on Eagle Mtn Lake. The lake is about 12mile long x apr 2-4miles wide if I recall correctly. It is a powered boat lake and frankly Im not sure there any Non powered lakes as boating is pretty big here. You can sail tho and there is a yacht club.

Anyways, If your interested here is the link to the home.

You can also try Lake Worth. It is smaller, and more shallow than Eagle Mt.Lake, but closer in and the land to buy or lease is much more reasonable. A lot of older stuff out there, but we have known people that have gotten great deals, you just have to be very savvy as you shop the area and look into real estate carefully. I think they started selling the land around the lake recently also, it used to all be leased, similar to Lake Weatherford. Lake Worth would only be about 15 minutes from TCU area.
