Where is the best place to view 4th of July fireworks?
Hey everyone. I haven't written in a while. We successfully moved here from Australia to Colleyville in September last year. We've got some relatives coming to town for the 4th of July and I'd love to know the best spot to go. We've got young kids, grandmothers and a teenager coming, so we need something for everyone. I've heard around Lake Grapevine is good, but have no idea where to go. Let me know your thoughts! Thank you in advance!

It just really depends on what all you are looking for. Do you want a family activity event before the fireworks? Do you want a close up spot just to view them? Do you want an easy access to and from viewing?
The fireworks display that Fort Worth puts on is of great quality. You can do events before the fireworks on the levee and/or attend the Cats baseball game. The downside is you have to wait until the game is over (its run into extra innings before making the fireworks quite late) and you have tons of traffic to deal with. I had my fill of traffic and decided a few years ago that was a deal breaker on where we went to see them, but it might be a great fit for your family. haha
Watching the fireworks at Grapevine Lake is best enjoyed from a boat on the lake, which is terrific and the only way I'd recommend going there. Unless you have someone you know who lives right on the lake or really close by, you are bascially on your own to find a suitable spot. It's been many years since I've been on the lake though.
Bedford and Hurst offer family friendly events during the afternoon then end the days activites with their own individual fireworks shows. We viewed Hurst's shows for a couple of years very easily by parking in the back parking lot of Hurst Hills elementary school, which not that many people knew about, so it was very easy in and out. We weren't looking for family events as we did our own thing during the day and just wanted to see fireworks. Bedford might also be a good choice for you as they have a larger gathering than Hurst. Then again Hurst might just do the trick too.
North Richland Hills, Richland Hills and Haltom City put on their own show as well, though there are not organized events surrouding it. They encourage people to come early and picnic in area parking lots before hand. Those we've also viewed, but from a small area on HWY 10 that isn't all that well known and therefore easy to get in and out as well.
There are many other cities that have fireworks, but these are the ones I've been there done that.

Thank you so much for that...I am kind of wanting to avoid too much traffic and I've spoken to others who have said it's an absolutely nightmare to get in and out. Our kids are probably too young to wait too long, so I think we'll probably hang out around the house, have a barbecue and if we feel like it, head to one of your suggestions just for the fireworks. Thanks again! Still open for other suggestions if anyone has any thoughts on good, but not so crowded spots to get in and out!

our front yard has perfect view of the Bedford Boys' Ranch fireworks--we just take couple of lawn chairs out and avoid all the crowds--can hear the explosions even--over the years we have lived here, the trees have grown and obscured some of wide angle view but it still works for us...
especially since the noisy neighbors across the street moved...

hehehehe! I love it!
We haven't decided where we'll go this year ourselves just yet. We moved last year and the previous spot won't really work well for us. My 5 yr old absolutely hated the noise if we got too close, so we've not worried too much about that part, just close enough to see them and partly hear them.
However, this year he seems to be fine with the noise, as we've just seen fireworks at NRH2O saturday night and they were right overhead!
We've done things like going to the small water park in hurst, then something like sonic for food, then head to see the show. I don't know if we want to go to NRH2O though....even with season passes. Might be too darn crowded! haha

Last year, my party and I went to eat at Pappasito's off Rt. 30 (just west of downtown). They have an outdoor area where you could bring chairs, blankets, etc. and watch the fireworks that are shot across the river. It was pretty neat. However, it was very congested leaving that area when the fireworks were over - probably a good 15-20 min. just to drive a few hundred yards to get on I-30.
One of my friends from out of town will visit me during the holiday weekend, so I'd like to find a good fireworks spot within FW as well. Otherwise, I may do what I did last year.

In some parts of the Metroplex you can actually do your very own impressive show.
There are also some locations that are designated to set them off if you chose to.
WARNING - In most cities, you can't light them off. We happen to be in unincorporated Fort Worth in the county, so we are able to have them out here. You can even be ticketed for transporting them in your car and caught. And all bets are off if you live in a county with a burn ban.
With that said, there are places where you can legally light them (if there isn't a burn ban).
Welcome To Nelson's Fireworks - Best Selection and Largest Fireworks Stands In Texas! - Home is up in Roanoke and has quite an impressive selection. There are also Alamo Fireworks that I found in the Sunday Paper and they had certain places where you could light them as well.

Granbury
Granbury has a real nice 4th of July fireworks show. We live on the lake and can view it from our home. I see lots of boats out on the lake to view them too.
But....It might be crowded if you are driving in from out of town to view them. Traffic and such.
I hope you can find a place and enjoy them wherever you go!!!!
