My family and I live in Roanoke and love it. Northwest ISD is very good and I think it will continue to improve. A new high school is opening this fall in the next town, Trophy Club. The only thing you want to be careful of is that some areas of north Fort Worth have a Roanoke mailing address. Your taxes will be much higher there and there are fewer amenities available to residents.

roanoke does not have lot of shopping/restaurants although there is new strip mall in Haslet off I35 with a Kohls and other stores and there are more building...
when the race track is busy, traffic is bad and I 35 is really the main drag which IS a drag--it is not a good commute...
you do not say where anyone is working--Roanoke is pretty far from FTW itself and further from Dallas/Arlington/or other areas...
Northwest ISD has gotten lot of play lately because that is where lots of housing was built--frankly I don't think it is that great a district--it started out as rural/agricultural one and still has a lot of that type of demographic--maybe that is what you feel comfortable with--but to me a good district is one with high numbers of National Merit scholars and lots of AP scholars and good SAT scores...
Northwest does not shine in any of those areas--it has mainly anglo students and frankly should have better TAKS results with a fairly cohesive student demographic than it has...
there are other districts that I would rank (and statistics would support) as better

Where are you getting your facts, Maybe you need to do a new study. Roanoke is not far from Ft Worth or Dallas unless you drive a moped. TAKS does not mean thing. I like schools that do not teach the TAKS only. Northwest ISD is a great school district.

National Merit Scholars don't have to worry about TAKS
check out this list
http://www.city-data.com/forum/dalla...finalists.html
2009 National Merit Scholarships
no one from Northwest is listed...
Roanoke is further than Keller or Trophy Club (although some areas w/Keller mailing address are in Roanoke)--it is more than 30 min into Sundance Sq if there is any traffic

Roanoke is not farther from Fort Worth than Trophy Club. 30 minutes to downtown Fort Worth without traffic is pretty accurate and unfortunately, there is almost always traffic on I-35 going into Fort Worth.

most of Roanoke is away from 114/121 and forces I-35 as the freeway of choice--that is why I say it is further away--although technically there are some areas of Trophy Club that are really in Roanoke--just have Trophy Club mailing address--same w/north parts of Keller around Dove Rd and that new Larry Cole development--and I don't think there are any "easy" ways out of there...no real through roads and they are all two-lane and narrow with open bar ditches...

Roanoke is 8 miles from Southlake and 12 miles to the DFW Airport. The schools are extremely well funded. The new high school is fantastic, which is called Byron Nelson. The tax rate is 1.95 and will save you a lot of money compared to other areas. The Keller is extremely difficult to navigate east/west and is building a lot of apartment complexes.

Why is it difficult ot navigate east and west in Keller? you have 1709, Johnson rd, Bear creek pky, and N Tarrent ALL east west roads.
I have found Keller very easy to get around... Rufe snow runs N and S from Johnson rd all the way to 820. Keller smith run N and S, Whitley rd run s N & S etc...
AND where is the city of Keller building aLOT of aptment complexes? The plans to build another in town square has been fought etc...
I do not know of any new complexes being currently built in Keller.
The construction in ans around Roanoak right now is a pain. Getting on 377 south from Roanoak can take awhile since there is no light etc...
The new HS is being built in Trophy Club not Raonoak. Some of Roanoak attends Keller isd.
The tax rate of 1.95 % I would like to see that data. I know Denton county is less than Tarrant county but all RE taxes combined would make it higher... or are you just stating the city tax for Roanoak and not county and school taxes.

I would not hesitate to move to Roanoke. It is peaceful, a great family area, has a personality and isn't that far from the hussle bussle but you still have a little feeling of country. Ok, not lots of shopping, well, I remember Flower Mound, Grapevine, Keller and Southlake 10 to 20 years ago. Even Lewisville. There was a time we had no restaurants in Lewisville except a couple of fast food chains and nothing open, even for a sandwhich after 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
