Need Help with information to open a Big , Bakery , we are relocationg from Chicago to the Southlake, keller or Grapevin
Hello Everyone,
My husband wants to open up a Big Bakery in that area. HIs family has 3 of them here and a Banquet hall in the Chicago area and are very succesful. Our oldest daughter just got married 2 weeks ago to a youngman from the Dallas area, and we are thinking of relocation also, but we like the Southlake, Keller and Grapevine areas. The Bakery will have Chicago Style cakes and pastries, but I'm trying to get some information from the folks that live in those areas as to where it may be a better choice, as location is everything with bussiness as you all know. In advance I thank you all.

Hi!! From Keller here.
This place so NEEDS SOME GOOD BAKERIES (no offense to anyone) I am from MI and I dont think I have found a good bakery yet.
There is a GREAT place for a new store over near where your looking lots of new bulidings going up. (Keller area, off Alta-Vista rd) Surrounded by new homes, growing area and new schools going up. It would be perfect!!
and here is a Tip Most of the "donut" shops around here close at noon! Can you imagine that...

there are a couple in Grapevine already
have you done market search
Main Street Bread Baking Company
they have 3 stores
Breadhaus
BreadHaus Bakery Grapevine Texas
saw a Busy B shop on 1709 this weekend when driving through Southlake--that is bakery
for cakes--like wedding cakes--there is great bakery in Hurst--on Harwood Rd
does a LOT of business--but nothing like bread...
there is La Madelain in Grapevine and Corner Bakery in Grapevine Mills Mall and Southlake--they are more like restaurants--although they do sell baked goods...
Market St grocery has good bakery
frankly right now there are quite a few people who were living in Chicago when AA moved their headquarters here--
they are in the HEB/Grapevine area mainly--admittedly some of them are retired but they have kids who lived in Chicago and remember it...
most donut shops close because people only stop there when they are on their way to work in morning
Krispy Kreme is open but think they do lot of drive through business -- not eat in
and they have overgrown their market in last few years..

I am in the real state of Texas
but I am not in real estate...
I just know this area from living in it for 25 years...
like lot of other people who post...
demographics are different here--people are not used to making a separate trip for bread--they do that at the grocery store--there is bread from "artisan" type shops sold in groceries as well as the store's own breads and the mass-produced ones...
we also don't have neighborhoods where people really walk from home to the store--we drive--maybe some people are using bikes due to gas price increase--but people just work their trips to grocery into after work trips and doing errands once or twice a week instead of daily trips maybe...
you have not looked at any subdivisions around here to see where they are in relation to the shopping...
You might try a bakery in Sundance Sq area of downtown FTW--there are more people living in condos down there and they might be in walking distance of shopping...
I think the guy at breadhaus has had a pretty hard time making a go of it---his shop is on a busy street but it is not that easy to get in and out of when traffic is busy
but I know real estate person who tries to go buy some bread he makes once a week--guess he has a revolving menu--
I don't buy frhom him--maybe he is doing better than I think...
decorated cakes--YES there are plenty of them around--nothing quite like Ace of Cakes some some pretty cool designers and some cakes actually taste great--that is a BIG deal here--the cake must taste as good as it looks...
if it were me I would try for spot close to school--lots of moms carpool their kids in elementary and jr high grades--they have to get there early to get a spot for pickup
if they saw bakery and could smell the bread--maybe they would detour by your place...

There is Bear Creek Bakery in Keller (377 and Bear Creek pky) near old town. I never been, but drive past it and heard they have good sandwhiches.
There is also a wedding cake place on 1709 near 377, again no idea how it is...it's in a "sad" looking bldg though!
Probably the best place in Keller would be in the "town Center area" near the Art house project etc... Not even a Panera there!
I think Southlake has quiet a few really, Nothing but Bundt cakes, the Cakery, Elegant Cakery, Corner Bakery, Busy B's, Market Street etc....
grapevine has a couple as well.
I think Keller could really use it... We lived in Germany and I miss my Bakeri!

Thanks to all
the type of Bakery that we want to open is not just the freshly made daily bread but more the elegant , different decorated cakes and desserts with a lot of different flavors than what I usualy see when I go visit my brother in the Mansfield, Arlington area. One time we celebrated my daughter's B-day overthere, and after searching for a while. I went to a Kroger and explined how I wanted the cake done as far as the flavors and they seemed surprised about my request ,but they liked it and made it for us. It is not going to be a small Bakery for only daily donuts or for moms to stop in the morning. It will also be for the decorated cakes for B-days and Weedings and other Big ocassions.

this area has many of those special bakeries--some of them in business for years and some of them start-ups in response to all the blitz about making money on the wedding train and or desire in upscale neighborhoods for custom food products...
just need to do a good quality investigation--and remember that just because YOU like what you make does not mean that the majority of your customers will be shopping for the same thing...
personally I wish someone in the Mid-Cities would open a kolache shop
my husband keeps kidding that when he retires that is what he is going to do but he does not cook anything beyond cold cereal...
