I'm thinking of relocating to Fort Worth and have found a place I like in the Handley neighborhood in East Fort Worth. I'm not sure about the area though. I'm a single woman and am wondering how safe it is. I've looked at the crime stats there are, but would love to hear from a Fort Worth native about the area.

I live in East Fort Worth, White Lake Hills. Handley is dangerous. The streets as a general rule run from Sandy to 820, many if not most go all the way through. Same is true North and South from Lancaster to Meadowbrook. Bad guys cut through. I was a telephone man out there for years. I would not reccomend it. Within last year a lady in my church was armed robbed on her front porch, daylight, early AM. Street was Forest.

So no, I would say, I hope you can do better. How much can you afford?

Thanks so much for the info. I had a feeling the crime was higher there, but wasn't sure since it seems the area has a active neighborhood group and the houses look decent. Also I wasn't sure if it was a neighborhood that was changing and getting better or worse. Anyone know?
I currently live in Arlington and have got a few options as far as houses go here, I'm just trying to narrow down my list

Come look at White Lake Hills if schools are not important to you. We have the lowest crime rate in Ft Worth for subdivisions our size. There is a front door and a back door to our subdivision with no cut through to anything. If you come to WLH then that is where you are going. Very active Citizens on Patrol group.

Handley is getting better as is all of the east side.

Chiming in that I would also be very wary of Handley. I lived there over 10 years ago and it was bad then - my apartment got broken into several times. I'd keep looking elsewhere, sorry...

Its not as bad as they are making it out to be. Crime everywhere is bad, but in general the people in Handley are middle class, diverse, hardworking, and honest people. You always have those few knuckle heads. Crime in Fort Worth is rather its East or west is at a all time low keep that in mine in making your decision. I recommend the area my mom loves the area and just got a 2 story house built off of john t. white and she hasnt had any trouble with crime. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks everyone for your advice. I still haven't decided on the area, but you all have definitely given me more to think about
