Even though this post is about what people don't like about Ft. Worth, you STILL see them saying great things about the city. Not many places in this country can say that.

My family and I are considering Ft. Worth. Can those of you have had said that "northside", "eastside", and "inner loop 820" please define what roads make up the parameters of these areas? I know that in our current city you can pretty much say "don't go South of X road, North of Y road", etc. I hope that the same can be shared about Ft. Worth.
(: Thanks

northside ~ Stockyards area, 28th Street (west of I-35) and surrounding area.
eastside ~ Berry St area in between 820 & I-35, give or take a few miles in the radius of that.
inner loop 820 ~ that's kinda vague, that could be lots of places.

I spent alot of years in the Fort Worth area...now I live in Florida. When I return for a visit I am struck by how brown and ugly it is...most of the time, except for a litte while in the Spring.
The summers are terribley HOT and dry, I used to wait until about 8 at night to mow the lawn, just as the sun was going down or get up first thing in the morning...
The winters can be brutal as well although not usually snow, ice sucks though. Tornadoes are a nasty thing as well.
I prefer Florida, it never gets hot like that here, its green year around and I love the rain we get in the summer, its soothing.
The people of Texas are so friendly and the Barbecue can't be beat, Try Angelos on White Settlement road, they have been there for more then 40 years and they are to die for.

I'd much rather live in Ft Worth than Florida...the latter may not get quite as hot, but the humidity is much worse. And hurricanes don't make it this far from the Gulf. I don't think it's ugly either, although some parts of it are, like any other big city.
I prefer the Railhead's BBQ (and Cousin's), although Angelo's is no slouch. They just need to upgrade their BBQ sauce!

Are there any great Gated Retirement communities in Fort Worth or Westover Hills, Texas?

Fort Worth is very widespread...so, one area of Fort Worth is much different than any other.
Where we live now, in the Park Glen/Summerfields/Fossil Creek area...it is beautiful, but getting crowded. It has a wonderful school district (Keller ISD), and lots of shopping and restaurants. Everything in the area is practically new (another new restaurant just opened up which is WONDERFUL! They have the BEST Vietnamese cuisine). There are MANY things that are within walking distance...and, one of the best public libraries around.
With this said...we are moving out of the area because it is just too darn crowded! The area is growing and growing! LOL!
As far as us moving? I wanted to be closer to work (although I am pretty close now), and in a less congested area. We love Fort Worth so much, we are sticking in this city, but moving to a different area. We are having a house built in the Lake Country area of Fort Worth where there are beautiful hills, lakes (Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Worth, and Marine Creek Lake), and less people. Those that think all of Texas is flat land is crazy! Just visit Lake Country! LOL! Of course, it isn't as "advanced" as where our current home is as far as shopping and restaurants...but, it is starting to grow. Now, if they would just build a few healthier restaurants, and a Whole Foods in the area, I would be a VERY happy camper.
I LOVE Downtown Fort Worth. I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio which had a HUGE Downtown area...but, it seemed like everything closed up at 5 p.m. Downtown Fort Worth is pretty bustling at night, and is VERY safe (everytime you turn around, you will see a policeman on a bike). Sure, it isn't nearly as big as Dallas or Cleveland...but, this is one reason I love it so much.
Fort Worth has great culture. The museums and parks are wonderful...and, there is always something to do. Whether you are visiting the Botanic Gardens, the Stockyards, The Modern, or Log Cabin Village...you will never be bored. Bass Hall brings wonderful venues to see...or, if you are on a budget, Tarrant County College and TCU (Texas Christian University) have wonderful art exhibitions, drama, music and dance concerts. There are other theatres as well...such as Hip Pocket Theatre. OH...and, go and see "Four Day Weekend" in downtown Fort Worth...you'll LOVE it!
As far as what I do NOT like about Fort Worth?
Not enough restaurants. JUST KIDDING!! There are restaurants on every corner (not literally)! LOL! Sure, they're not 5-Star restaurants...but, how often do you need to go to one of those?
I don't like that our current or future area does not have a community center nearby. We pay taxes just like the rest of the city...yet we don't have one in our area. This is my biggest complaint. OH...of course the weather! It gets TOO hot here in the summer! But, it is MUCH better than the frigid cold and oodles of snow I dealt with in Ohio.

Humidity? I wonder if Texans truly know what humidity is...I currently live southern Ohio around the Hillsboro area(probably too small to have heard about). July and August are made up of 90 degree days with 85%-90% humidity...you may see the 100's but what kind of humidity 65% or so...you can get in the shade for a hot sun, but outside with my kind of humidity there is no relief...

Yea, its perty humid over here in Florida! The summers are anyway. We are in our "dry season" now. Still get more rain in one month in our dry season then I saw in a year when I lived in the desert! I dont know if any of ya'll read my thread but were looking into moving to Fort Worth this summer. Not that we dont like Florida, that isnt the problem at all! My husband wants to go back to the company he worked for and we DO NOT want to go back to Cali! So, its a hard decision. I am a researcher for sure! My best friend lives in Saginaw. She likes it a lot over there. I think I will miss all this green and tree's and water! SO, I wanna hear more about what ya'll dont like? and also more about what you do!! What area's should I stay away from.. I hear the more south ya go the greener it is.. My cousin lives in Austin and its real green and pretty there! My friend tells me Haslet is really nice? I have heard great things about lake country.. I dont want to be where the traffic is HORRIBLE. My husband will work in the Saginaw area. I think I wouldnt mind being a little further out! Where there is more tree's and less concrete? We kinda live out in between St Augustine and Jacksonville now and I love being out of the direct hustle and bustle ya know?

Whole Foods in Keller???
Artcgal, I read your post about Whole Foods and healthier restaurants in Fortworth and Keller. I have to say I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't live in Texas yet, but a move there is in our future. I visited Keller and Southlake a couple of years ago and noticed a lack of natural food type stores. I think Whole Foods originated in Austin? We have them up here in Massachusetts-great store!!! Hopefully they will make their way to Keller if they haven't already.
