This is pretty cool and I wasn't aware of this until today. All sorts of ancient creatures have found here including shark fossils at the excavation. I'm actually a bit embarrassed that this is news to me, but it's something I felt needs to be shared.

In north Arlington, students unearth remnants of the dinosaur era | Schools | Star-Telegram.com (http://www.star-telegram.com/schools/story/1264226.html - broken link)

Over the last few years I've been watching this area get transformed from a beautiful floodplain into something that is rather upsetting. They say the new development company is going to "keep it green", time will tell. One thing I'm certain of we don't need is another 900 new homes in place of what this area serves as.

I really like the "new urbanist" Viridian community that Huffines is going to build there. If you have to build new homes, it makes a lot more sense to build dense neighborhoods with central ground floor retail with several stories of multifamily over it. They will preserve lakes and parkland. This isn't the kind of typical sprawl you see out in Mansfield or elsewhere on the outskirts of the Metroplex, this is a dense infill development. It's 4100 homes in that space, not 900.

Huffines is letting them finish the dig which will take until October before they start working on development and mess up the site.

Here's their website: Arlington, Texas Mixed-Use Master-Planned Community Developers :: Huffines Communities™ Signature Communities :: Viridian
