No, waiters get paid minimum. That is $8. I am quite aware of why gas is more epensive here thank you very much. Also, I wasn't referring to eating out. If you are on a budget, you don't eat out. It's called cooking. Yes, El Centro is considered the boonies here. It doesn't matter what the population is in California. What matters is the location. Shoot, Riverside is considered the boonies by most, and it's population is over 200,000. It's also a lot closer to things than is El Centro.

El Centro boonies?
Imperial VAlley has about 150k population in the area (about a 25 mile radius) over a milllion if you count Mexicali and w/ the numbers of people crossing into the checkpoint we're talking mucho people

Considering Palm Springs and San Diego are 1.25 hr away. It wouldn't be considered out there. It has all the major stores that'd you'd find in any city.

Riverside is considered part of the LA metro, just the same way Cities around FW are considered part of the DFW metro.
That's not the boonies... I've driven from Houston to CA .. lots of boonies there.
Just the same way from there's plenty of boonies between LA and SF. Allthough scenic boonies

Kudos to you, young person, for having common sense. That's the trouble with many nowadays. They have to have the best, the biggest, the most, what the Jone's have and on and on. People certainly live way beyond their means. Also and as you stay, eat at home. I cannot believe how much money people spend on eating out and then complain they can't afford home owner's insurance and the like. Oh, the list is endless how one can save thousands of dollars each year and live on a decent salary that Fort Worth ISD provides.

Again, if you can make it work on 55k in FWISD good for you. My inlaws are spread throughout ISD's all over TX and live very very cheap and paycheck to paycheck, it's unfortante that 55k is all they can make for 20 years of hard work. I really think 25 years of service to education in TX should garner you much more of a salary.

It is not the serious questions and debate that is the problem it is the way you keep changing your story. Tell us where do you live now, CA or TX. Are you looking for work in Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio. Is your wife working here in TX? You see with all the stories we aren't sure anymore. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Pretty funny stuff, just try to keep your stories straight and you won't be called out on them. It is not a personal attack it is trying to get you to tell the truth. You don't have to deceive people to stir up a conversation. You don't have to put on a facade in order to get people to carry on a decent debate.

If they're not happy with the salary, they can move on. What about becoming an administrator?

I don't work for the FWISD but for another school district in Texas. If I told you what I made, it would cause you to have a coronary. Somehow, I still have money left at the end of the month albeit my children are grown and on their own. I did raise my children though on a meager salary and we never did without.

It's amazing how far money can be stretched with very little effort. We even had and I still have a 3-bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home. I must downsize one of these days, but it's such a hassle to move. I do own my home and certainly don't want to be dumb and have to pay a mortgage which is doubtful if I stay in Texas but in another state, that possibility might arise.

The only things that will consider Riverside part of the LA metro area are statistics. People don't consider it as such. If you have to drive more than an hour to get to LA or San Diego, people consider it the boonies. I've lived in southern California all my life, and that is how it is here. Once again, people don't care about the population.

Thank you. I wasn't raised that way, but there is no reason to spend more than one makes. That is just craziness. Plenty of people live on way less than 50K and don't have problems. Seriously, my mom and stepdad make about that or under that here in CA. I'm sure they would love to make the same in TX.

On the bright side, DWong, Salary Schedules are updated every year and usually increase (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I'm guessing that that means that the raises will be slightly higher than what is shown on a particular salary schedule because it will adjust with inflation.
