Hi - we have been kicking around public vs. private in the fort worth area and with twins on hand...tuition is insane!!! We are seriously narrowing down our search for homes to the Arlington area...possibly Mansfield as well. Does anyone have any info on the elementary schools in these areas?

Thanks

you can check the ratings for each school on the MLS site I will send you--it lists homes in Mansfield

exemplary--1
recognized-2
acceptable-3

don't just look at the elem ratings...
getting an exemplary rating in elem is fairly easy. ( most kids love school, and lots of parental involment etc...at that age)

Look at the middle schools where the kids start to get in trouble and paretns start go go back to work and are less involved in the school etc... an acceptable rating in a middle school would be a red flag.

it all depends on where the middle school draws its kids from--and the demographics--haing an acceptable rating does not mean that there is not good teaching going on--just a few students in some sub-groups can turn a Recognized into an Acceptable rating
you need to check out other areas of the TAKS results besides the overall rating...

but if you don't already own a home in Mansfield--there are other districts with same pricing with better schools...

Loves to read...can you tell me the other districts with better schools? Because according to the Texas school rating website that links out of the district websites, Mansfield has 9 exemplary elementary schools vs. Arlingtons ISD with only 3?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to transfer to a school outside of your zone? Like if I lived in mansfield but wanted my daughter to attend the school next to my new job, which is in Mansfield, is that possible?

someone said that Mansfield does not do INNER-district transfers...
check the district's web site
IF districts do allow for that, the application usually takes place in spring and depends on what the projected enrollment for the next year is...not all schools may be taking transfers...
so you may have missed the deadline or that school might not be open but all depends on district's policy
and you do not qualify for bussing when you do this--it is your responsibility to transport

why would I need to do an inner district transfer? We are moving in from out of state? Would this still apply?
