Default New to area - housing questions

This is a re-post from the Dallas thread as suggested to do by some people on there:

My wife and I are new to the area and trying to figure out our options for housing. I'll be working in Arlington (near Six Flags). She'll be in Fort Worth (though her work commute will be during off hours). We're trying to settle in on an area that fits our lifestyle and keeps both of our commutes reasonable. Other than a good commuting location, we're also looking for:

1) Decent school district
2) Decent parks (walking/running trails)
3) 3-4 br house (at least 1800 sf) under $215K
4) Low crime

Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Try looking into Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, or HEB.

I really like Euless & Bedford in that price range. You can get to Six Flags area in minutes.

Arlington itself is good but you want to look at schools. If you choose North Arlington because its so close Pope Elementary and Lamar HS are good. South Arlington (Martin HS is best) and Mansfield are great and fit your price range well. South Arlington has a lot of homes in that range, and some are Mansfield ISD. Mansfield might be be bad as 360 takes you right to Six Flags and the wife could take 287 right into Ft Worth, and traffic on that's not bad at all. There are some great deals in Kennedale as well.

You can take Collins straight from Euless/Bedford into North Arlington to Six Flags, but the wife's commute into Ft Worth will be terrible because of the NE loop of 820 and 183, even at odd hours.

Hi Jayhawk. We have a beautiful 2 story 4 BR 2 1/2 Bath home for sale in SW Fort Worth. It's between your work and where you say your wife would be working. It's near Hulen Mall. Lots of shopping. Close to Southwest hospital district. Crowley School District and other private schools if you have children. It's a lovely floor plan in an award-winning Neighborhood Association (we competed with NA's all over the US and won 3rd place). We have a community pool and playground. GREAT neighbors also. We are on a cul-de-sac sort of, so we have a very large and lovely landscaped back yard. Beautiful screen-room out back with extended cool deck patio. Lots more and we are under $215K. I sent you a private friend request if you would like to discuss details! Have a great day!

Crowley is not top tier district--facing some financial shortfalls and other issues

183 into FTW is not a bad drive especially if it is off-hours--my husband gets into Sundance Sq from Hurst in 20 min or so each way in normal hours--but 820 is different kettle of fish--would not take a commute that made me use that road...

Hi Loves2read,

We were in contact last year. We used to go to Budget Car Hire in Melbourne Rd every month to extend our car hire and spent time in the French Bakery and several other shops nearby. At first we came in along the Pipeline Rd from the Euless direction but for the last two months of our stay we came off the 820 at Pipeline to go to Melbourne Rd. In all the time we went to Hurst we never visited the new Mall that was only a stones throw from Melbourne Rd. What's it like and is it worth a visit.

Looking forward to your opinion.

We now have a place to the NW of Ft.Worth that we live in when in Texas, not there permanently yet.

Regards,
Jonathan Lowe
