The water was coming down so fast that it was very easy to see how someone could become trapped. Its not that you drive through water that you see flooded its that water is coming down so hard and fast that your windshield wipers can't move that fast and you can't see pooled water until you are going through it.

I will definately sit it out waiting next time rather than trying to drive and get home.
It's coming down in buckets here too, and I'm in Hill County. I love it when I'm home, but driving in it is way too scary. Actually, it's really a bit too stormy with thunder, lightning, and winds and we're under a flash flood warning. This is not as fun as I thought it would be. My poor dog is huddled at my feet as it's getting way too noisy.

Oh crud, I just checked the radar and the Cleburne area is under a tornado warning. Now I don't like this at all.

I must say this beats the heat we had last June and the rest of the summer. I'm just so sorry though that it brings with it flooding and deaths and nerves on edge.

I'm in Dallas and bought a patio Townhome last year. Because of the combination of typical summer heat and the severe drought all my newly-purchased plants burned up. So I got smart and put out heat-tolerant, drought-resistent plants this spring --- which are all now drowning from the rain.

The property backs up to one of the White Rock creeks; I'm afraid, very afraid.

Default Summer Storm Brings Flooding Rain, Tornado

Here's (broken link) the story on Tuesday's storms. Some places got over half a foot of rain. We've already received more rain this year than all of last year. And about a foot of rain so far this year than all of 2005. Drought ... what drought?

I saw a screen crawl on the TV tonight that in Hood County near Granbury, people were in trees waiting to be rescued. Some had to make holes in their roofs from the attic to get to safety. Terrible.

Well, you just might really be if it were to flood.

Over 9 inches of rain in June alone at DFW Airport (official record spot). I heard that's the third wettest June in recorded history, and June isn't over yet. It's coming down in buckets here in Hurst as I type and I see more rain on the radar. Looking at the forecast it says more throughout the day, especially this afternoon, which is worriesome. I don't live in a flood-prone area but at some point this needs to stop. I also feel for the people that have lost lives and property.

Hood Co--Granbury area has people who are getting washed away--feel for them--same thing happened to my dad and his wife when the Guadalupe flooded back in 99 in central TX---they are getting more rain this year but not as bad as this...

we are thinking about buying a lake property--this is kind of scary---my husband has a guy in his office that lives in Acton by the river--hope he is not getting high water...

heard that lots of people lost power as well--really scary....

I just read on cbs11tv.com that a 13 y/o boy got swept away in the flood in Garland last night and died.

We have standing water several inches deep in parts of our yard right now. I'd say we are saturated!

We are part way down on a decline in the terrain, but not at the bottom, thank goodness! However, yesterday we had water coming into our backyard and flowing down the side yard to the street like a nice little river. We wtached the water run down the street and splash like white water rapids against a curb across the street.

Thing is....within minutes of the rain stopping, it all calmed back down. Just proves that the drainage system works very well here!
