Smile Commute Drive Time (Irving to Fort Worth...Downtown Dallas to Fort Worth)

Hello.

I am relocating to DFW area for a new job and need advice on commute drive times (to arrive at work at 8am, and would be leaving work 5pm):

Las Colinas/Irving to Downtown Fort Worth
Downtown Dallas to Downtown Fort Worth

Thanks

no way would anyone in h/her right mind choose to live in Downtown Dallas and work in Downtown FTW UNLESS they were willing to use the train to go back and forth--
not sure what the schedule is--but there is station by AA/Reunion Arena that winds up just south of Sundance Sq--would probably mean taking a city bus to final destination...
and you can get bus from other areas in Dallas to the AA/Reunion station--not sure how much time would be involved--it is probably a 40 min trip because of the stops along the way
check out this link
Trinity Railway Express (TRE)
checking that link--the AA station is only workable during concerts there--so you would have to choose the Union Station I guess and looks like it is about an hour's trip because of distance/stops--but reports in FTW paper say it is a decent train--clean--few problems en route

Driving from Irving into downtown FTW would be against traffic but you have to go through the Grapevine interchange--messy and going to get worse IF they start on redoing 114/121 interchange as they have promised--114 /121/183 or the George Bush turnpike to 183 really only viable ways
would think it would be at least 45 min each way and longer in afternoon...
plus parking charges--no free parking in downtown during working time...

Loves2Read is exactly correct. You'd be a fool to drive from Downtown Dallas to Downtown Fort Worth for a commute. Take the TRE!

Irving to Fort Worth will be about 45 minutes, but you never know with 183. It is actually fairly heavy that direction in the evenings because a lot of mid-cities (Hurst, Bedford, NRH) people commute east in the morning.

OP, consider trying the commute before you make a decision. When we first moved back here, I commuted from Carrollton(we were staying w/my inlaws) to Ft Worth via 121. I left early (6:15 am) and it wasn't bad.The afternoon drive sucked...and I left at (6:00 pm). I've heard from others that 30W isn't bad until you hit Arlington/E. Ft Worth, and even then it isn't 820 bad.If you could, I'd take the train. Let me know if you do this, as we are considering moving back to Dallas and I would be commuting to Ft Worth. We have a family situation plus we're not exactly crazy about this town.
