interracial family is on a distinguished road
Question Fort Worth area churches

My husband has accepted a new job in the Fort Worth area and we will soon be moving. His job will be on the west side of town. We are an interracial family through adoption. My husband and I are both Caucasian and our little boy is African American. We are wanting to buy a home close to the church that we choose, not necessarily as close to his office. My husband and I have always been involved in Southern Baptist churches and are currently involved in a wonderful one that is becoming more and more racially diverse each week. We love it and will truly miss it when we move! So that is what we are looking for. A great church that is racially diverse. This is important to us for our growing family. It doesn’t have to be Southern Baptist affiliated. We are also open to non-denominational and others. We would also love to know if there are any churches in the area that have adoption ministries. Perhaps there would be many adoptive families in the congregation. Does any one have any suggestions on churches? Please let me know your feedback. Thanks.

I was raised Southern Baptist but have not been into a DFW branch in all the time we have lived here--
I actually (because of friends) have been to Catholic churches as a guest and St Michael's Catholic church in Bedford has a racially diverse group the times we have been there --which frankly kind of surprised me althought it shouldn't--but I think you might be disappointed with the outreach St Michael's offers--I know some families with younger children who feel there is not much on offer there...

We plan to stick with a protestant church. Any other suggestions? The church does not have to be in Fort Worth, just that vicinity. We're open to Arlington, Mansfield or other places that aren't too far of a drive to FW. Thanks!

Crosstimbers Community Church in Argyle, Keller or Denton is perfect. I grew up in a Baptist Church and School. My wife, kids and I go to this Church because it caters to the younger people as much as the older. We all know that it is the youth of America that needs to be influenced to keep things going.

Thanks for the suggestions and I will continue to check back for more. Checked out the website for Trinity Chapel and it looks like a great church. We might definitely have to check it out. And it would be pretty close to my husbands work so that is even more convenient. I am wondering if ripley mentioned it for it's diversity or for it's support of adoption. Can you answer that?
I do know that Cross Timbers is diverse as my sister and her family attend at the Argyle location. And so we have visited with her several times in the past. We could look into the Keller Satellite church, as we would like to stay closer to the metroplex. We are just looking for a place that has a blend of people. A church that reaches out to ALL. Feel free to keep leaving suggestions. Thanks again!

I visited there a couple weeks ago with my son. I don't know everything there is to know about the church ... but I felt comfortable there, enjoyed the music, the message, and the people I met.

They discussed various ministries, but I did not hear anything mentioned about adoption support, ministries, etc.

The crowd was diverse, not an even split by any imagination, but there was a good mix.

There are many excellent churches in the area that would fit your situation.

From what I've heard, Wedgwood Baptist Church has a very open community and some interracial couples with children.

Other suggestions off the top of my head would be: Christ's Chapel, McKinney Bible Church, Southcliff Baptist Church, Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington, and Travis Avenue Baptist Church. Good luck and welcome to DFW!

You may want to look into Broadway Baptist, near downtown. It is a great church - diverse and incredibly involved in the immediate community. Though, the congregation is definitely diverse both in ethnicity and economic status, I would say it's primarily white. Their website is: Broadway Baptist Church

They also have a partnership with the Buckner Foundation (Buckner International: Helping Orphans, At-Risk Children and Families) a non-profit organization which, among other things, facilitates adoptions, many of which are interracial. Hope that helps! Good luck.
