Im looking to Move to Frederick MD in the summer of 2011. I will be looking for a 3 bedroom place to rent. I can afford up to $1300.00 a month. My main concern is reading all of the postings from others and reading about all the crime (drugs and murders) in the area. I'm open to renting an apartment or townhouse but would prefer a house. I have children and would like a safe neighborhood with good schools. I also have a child with special needs and need to know if anyone knows of a school in the area that works well with autistic/special needs kids. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if you'll find a single family house for that price in Frederick city, though possibly in the far north or west parts of the county. Townhomes may be more realistic in that price range, but even those sometimes rent for higher prices in the nicer communities.

Contact The Arc of Frederick County for information about services for your child. There is a long waiting list for services in Maryland but The Arc will be able to give you some school advocacy information and contact with local autism support groups. 301-663-0909 x12 or The Arc of Frederick County : Frederick, MD

Stay away from New Market Elementary School!!! They did our high-functioning autistic child a HUGE disservice this year. We are actually pulling him out and putting him in another public school.

I am not sure where all of the "crime and drugs" fear in Frederick comes from. There are some rough spots, but overall the area is wealthy, safe, and growing. I can't comment too much on your price range as I have been away from Frederick for about 4 years now, but I am sure you can find something where you won't be in fear of your person or property!
