I'm taking my girlfriend's parents out to dinner tomorrow night to ask for their blessing (not permission) to ask for their daughter's hand in marriage.

I'm looking for a restaurant with good food in a somewhat quiet setting which will allow us to talk. What I'm not looking for is anything overly fancy, generic (no chain restaurants), or difficult to get a table at.

We won't be eating until 7 or 8 tomorrow night so it would need to be open somewhat late for a Sunday and I'll need to be able to make reservations the day of.

If anybody can help out with a recommendation I'd greatly appreciate. The parents live in Middletown so something not too far from there or in Frederick would be perfect.

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I'd love to go to Volt some time, especially Table 21. However, it seems a bit more fitting for a place to propose than it is to ask for her parent's permission. Was thinking something a bit more low key (not cheap, just not $100 a head).

Volt is the complete opposite of all the things you are asking for. How about Brewers Alley? Just don't sit in the bar area. Cheap, unique, good beer, and quiet in the restaurant part. Sunday night the place should not be very crowded.

Or.......South Mountain Inn in Boonsboro is only a few minutes from Middletown and a very good restaurant. May be a little pricey (like $15-$30 dinners), but charming, quiet, and very good!

$15-$30 is fine by me. Sounds like a good spot, I'm going to check it out.

Thanks!

The Old South Mountain Inn - Fine Dining in Boonsboro, Maryland

It is on alt 40, maybe 5 miles or so from Middletown.

Oh, looks more like $20-$30 dinners, as opposed to $15-$30. Not too bad.
