Has anyone been watching Oprah's series that she did a couple years ago called "The Debt Diet"? I have been watching them for a second time as it makes me feel that we have done many of the "right" things with money management. I believe there are 3 different families they are working with - one of which was $170,00 in debt. I just can't imagine having that happen but I guess it did. This woman - the wife - had never even gone grocery shopping as they ate "all"meals out, mostly take out.

Another family she was working with - Her experts that is -- had 2 teenage daughters and just could not say no to anything they wanted. One of the girls had over 300 tee shirts.

Any way I guess they are now on their way to better money management and less wastefull living. I certainly hope so. It's not a great example to set for kids.

Default Oprah's series of 4 or 5 shows "Debt diet"

Yes I've seen some of the episodes and the lady who buys breakfast, lunch
and dinner at fast food places was ridiculous! They had a huge house,
several cars and a combined six figure salary and still in debt . I did like the one couple who told their friends that they were in debt and couldn't afford to do certain things with them.

Oprah telling people how to be frugal is kind of like Oprah telling people how to be skinny.

Plaidmom - It wasn't actually "Oprah" telling these people how to be frugal, it was several financial experts helping these people - who had requested help - how to get out of debt. I find it very interesting. Several of them were at risk of losing their homes.

I know that. But it's not as funny.

Still, I do find it interesting that she's so focused on "helping" people with things she cannot master herself*. What Would Doctor Phil Say???

(*Not that she needs to be frugal, goodness knows, but her spending is pretty over-the-top. Luckily, she's made millions.)

Can't watch the Oprah show since I'm gone during the day.

Buy I do enjoy waving my arms in the air and yelling at the financially-inept people on the CNBC show, To Debt Do Us Part

I've seen the series and what I found most fascinating is the couple who the wife wouldn't give up her hair money.

Rented Good Hair today and now I know why. It's no wonder....do women really spend $1000 for their hair?
