My experience is that RV's are expensive to own and maintain. Many people who have them are well above average means.

I'm doing something similar next spring. I'm not looking for a job as I'm still in college, but I'm scoping out the places that I'll consider moving to once I've got my degree in hand. I did a TON of traveling when I was a kid and have plenty of places in mind, and I want to see whether or not these places are for me.

So, I've bought the 60-day, $540 Greyhound Bus Discovery Pass (I leave March 25 after I return from abroad) to go on as many bus trips as I can fathom in 60 days (no more than 3 round trips between any 3 locations, however). I lived in a truck for two summers and know all about truck stop showers, sleeping, living out of a backpack, and all of that good stuff.

If you think you have what it takes and if you've done your research, I say go for it! Make sure you know about the laws, though, in terms of street parking, your vehicle's payload, getting a good--albeit cheap--travel trailer, what to bring, condensation (winter is coming!!!), etc. (hint: park at WALMART!!! I've never seen them make an issue over travel trailer campers in their parking lots, and it's free parking. They've got a rep for this. Plus, 24 hour "legit" bathroom).

Good luck!! Feel free to PM me with any particular questions as I might be able to help, having experience in this arena and all.

Well, traveling around by whatever method you choose will open up more opportunities. However, putting your stuff in storage and leaving the house vacant is not optimizing your resources very well. If the house was rented it could be generating income. If you rent it for a lower amount than the other houses in your area you should be able to pick and choose between the available renters.
