Geesh, edit my above post to say they are NOW putting Made in PRC, which of course is People's Republic of China, instead of Made in China because they know we're sick of the Chinese made junk.

I agree with the toilet paper comment...every time I buy it and see those cheap flimsy rolls I cannot understand why anyone with half a brain in their head would think that's a better deal than Scott which lasts forever. People are really morons sometimes, and I guess that's why so many of these companies are making millions. Very rarely is cheap equal to quality, IMHO.

I will pay more for solid wood, used furniture. I've learned.

Also, those so-called "outlet malls" are rarely a bargain. And I also hate those so called "Flea-Markets" that sell new junky carp. Spare me.
I remember when they started building outlet centers.... they were true values to be had then. Now they are destination shopping, and the stores are making lines of product JUST for the outlets, and cranking in the bucks.

Seriously...? Yes, I googled that, you are correct. Yuck.

I only recently learned that some manufacturers make lower-quality products for certain stores and "outlet malls." Dewalt tools makes cheapo tools for sale at Home Depot, Columbia has a crappy cheap line of clothing they sell only in stores like meijers and other chains...I'm sure there are other examples.

A very large mall about an hour south of me just changed its name from "Great Lakes Crossing" to "Great Lakes Crossing Outlets" and nothing has changed that I can see except they are now trying to bill themselves as a "low cost shopping destination." Gag me.

I got a pair of headphones from the dollar store. The cord broke off from the plug. I decided to solder to a plug I had lying around and could see the low quality. The wires had only one strand and the insulation was enamel, not plastic. I made the repair and am still using them, but will likely stick to name brand phones the next time.

What do you expect for $1?

The next time, you might pay $15 and have the same results.

I have no idea what the other poster paid, but just want to clarify that despite the term "dollar stores" many dollar stores do indeed sell many things for well over a dollar, so s/he may well have paid $15.00 for those headphones.

The only reason I stopped in was convenience, I was in the neighborhood when my headphones quit. But the $1 price was tempting.

These days, a lot of things in the dollar store don't even seem worth a dollar to me.

What most people don't realize is that ANY store can call itself an "outlet". Outlet simply means an "outlet" for goods. Stores are ALL "outlets". What they not longer are, is "FACTORY Outlets.". Thats where you used to find true bargains; Items that may have been slightly irregular, etc., that the factories could not send on to the regular stores, so they marked them down. Those types of "outlets" are gone - because, well, the factories are gone.

Man -- I miss the West Point/Pepperell factory stores. Bed linens, bath linens...

And washrags by the POUND!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares if they weren't perfect....A pound of washrags lasted a couple of years, before they were relegated to rags.

It used to be fun going to the factory outlets, because you never knew what you'd find.... haven't been in years.
