It was a fun read:

I'm sure mileage varies with this type of stuff. I have had difficulty selling perfectly good items on craigslist at damn near free. Some items seem to attract more attention, but only for rock bottom prices. I think people might do better by having a garage sale.

I had a table and two chairs, and I couldn't even give it away. I took pictures of the table and chairs, separately and together, and posted it on Craigslist. No one wanted the set because it wasn't "perfect" for free. The person that originally gave the set to me let her cat scratch the vinyl on one of the chair seats.

So I ended up putting it in the alley by where I live, and someone picked it up within 30 minutes.

My next door neighbor is a "trash picker." He goes out in the middle of the night into the alleys and collects can and bottles for money. During the day, he'll go out and ride his bike in the alleys to see what's been dumped, and if there's anything that he can bring home to sell.

He's the only person that I've ever known that brought a 3' wide, floor to ceiling bookcase home on his bike. He tied his dolly to the seat, and used bungee cords and duct tape to secure the bookcase to bring it home.

Sleeping at the office is the only one I would consider "extreme." I did pick up a "kitty perch" out of the garbage once. Cleaned it up good before using it.

You could have donated the stuff and taken the tax write-off.

To take donation tax write-offs, it has to be a certain amount, plus you have to itemize your taxes, which I don't do. It's not really worth it, unless you have a lot of stuff to donate. I give my receipts to a friend that itemizes.

Yes, it IS a fun read. But I wouldn't necessarily categorize this guy as a "penny pincher" ~ just someone who saw a good opportunity from others who didn't. Good for him!

There are more slides/pages - more guys/gals who re-roast coffee, make their kids pay at the restaurant, etc.

And Slide #12 could be CD's poster named StealthRabbit!
