This Panera bread location allows you to pay however much you think you should pay for the sandwich. Fellow frugal shoppers, how much would you may if you were eating there?

This is not some innovative thing Panera came up with. It's been going on for forever but more recently a few years back when the economy was really bad some small diners and restaurants started offering this idea.

People seemed appreciative of the concept and many people said they paid more than they normally would for their meal b/c if they were down on their luck they would appreciate an offer like this. There were numerous newspaper articles and little features on the tv news. Apparently a Panera store copied this idea.

At most places I would probably wind up paying more than normal however I have always felt Panera was WAY overriced. I go get a sandwhich, small cup of soup and a drink and I'm apying like $11, I could eat cheaper at Chilis or an actual sit down restaurant most of the time.

i hate this idea. i just cant voluntarily pay more than i am required to do so. if you give me a choice of paying what i want, i will pay as little as possible. so set a price that is appropriate and let me choose based on that.

whats gross? i dont like their sandwiches but ill stop by for lunch and get a salad. the bread i get is that little piece of french baguette that comes with the salad, i enjoy it.

i remember when i went to a museum and the price list was suggested. everyone was paying full price but i said i didnt want to pay. the cashier said i had to pay something so i agreed to one dollar a person. i still regret paying that much. but i hated that i was in a museum and feel they have no business existing. panera is a real business so id like them to set a price and let me make my decision based on their set price.

I'd have to be really low on spare change, because I don't care for Panera Bread at all. Ate the one here in my hometown once and was unimpressed. Very over-priced, too.

Happily, I live more than 100 miles from such a place, so I won't be tempted. But their on-line menu doesn't give any prices. I usually interpret that to be code for "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it".

I LOVE their mushroom soup, in a bread bowl... YUM. I agree that it's overpriced. I'm uncomfortable with this concept though.

I've only been a couple times though, as I'm not often in the mood for soup and when I eat lunch out I usually am with dh - and if they don't serve burgers and fries, he's there under protest.
