Seriously! 7 hours!
Wow... that's a LOT of standing at the sink.
How many did you cook for?
We had 14. The dishwasher was run twice. And all the hand washing (antique china: 2 sizes plates and salad bowl per person, plus platters and serving pieces) was done in 30 minutes.

I only cooked for 10--but I am really "anal" about washing dishes.. First I scrape everything off (we dont have a garbage disposal), then I scrub every item ..then I rinse each item..then I soak each item in a hot, soapy sink..then I rinse and then I sanitize with some bleach water..then a hot rinse again..I had a lot of side dishes and pots and pans that were horrible to clean..I am including the meticulous stove cleaning and oven cleaning into my 7 hours lol
PS I have OCD
Just being a devil's advocate. Maybe if you have a home. If you have an apartment where water is included in the rent, then you are free to use as much water as possible.

Reason: spelling and punctuation

The more water you use, the more energy you waste (even though it's not out of your pocket).

Yes, I understand that. It was in response to the comparison in the chart on post #16. I learned in statistics that you can't just look at the numbers, you have to look at what they mean. How did they arrive at that conclusion. Need to see the study.
Also, in an apartment where the water is included, or the electric is, or both, you can come up with a different comparison. Again, just being a devil's advocate.
Dishwasher uses less water than handwashing, generally.
Not if you use the two bucket method that I described. In fact, it uses much less and then the water gets poured out onto the tree in the front yard.
