Ranging from as little as 100sq feet, up to the behemoth 172sq ft 'Popomo'
Those remind me of the cottage-style motels that popped up everywhere in the automobile's early days.
I don't need the 1200 square feet I have currently (then again, I was not single when I bought this house), but I want more than 172 square feet! The larger cottages are cute, though -- and roomier!
But I do love the houses on wheels -- I should buy one to haul with me when I go to visit my mom. We'd probably both be happier ...

I've seen quite a few websites for these tiny houses and they ARE cute. I'm not sure I could be really comfortable in that small a space even living alone. I lived in a 21 ft. 5th wheel for about six months and that was too small. Even though it had ALL the amenities I needed including a nice sized (added in) pantry. The one I have now isn't all that big but it's all wide open except for one wall that separates the bathroom and 1/2 the bedroom area. Like a VERY large studio. It was built from a one car garage/workshop/carport. I like it and am comfortable here. It's bigger than a 'tiny house'.
Aloha,
I raised 4 children in a 4 bedroom 1000 sq foot home, normal in Hawaii. I am looking to relocate because of the cost here. I am thinking of Arizona (if I can take the heat) but am here looking for a small house maybe cedar or log my dream if I can swing it. i am into simplicity and not only because I'm a poor writer. Mahalo
In Hong Kong, a 100 sqft home (on the 40th floor) could cost $1 Million USD or more.. and that's with similar average after-tax salaries as the US.
When you get a taste of paying ridiculous prices for absolutely cramped conditions, then buying that 500 sqft home for $200,000 or renting that room in someone's house for $500/mo doesn't seem that bad anymore..
I could probably live alone or with a mate with few belongings in 600 sq ft or so, IF the floor plan was good and there was a bit of outside space. 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, living/kitchen/eating...that would be it. My 3/2 with seperate family room is about 1500 but there are 3 of us here now and lot's of company all the time. Under 100-200 would be way too confining for me, even with the most practical layout!

Here is western PA, that $200,000 would get you a nice larger house ~2000+ square feet.
Ya know, I would almost suffer the total horror and carnage that would result from living in a 100 sq foot house with three kids if it meant I didn't have to pay a mortgage. Too bad land is so expensive.
Well it's beats homelessness. I'm sure many Americans would LOVE to have one of these about right now.
