Not worth it to me to do it myself. My hair is so thick I need layers and thinning out for it to look decent. I go to beauty schools in between "professional" cuts sometimes to spend a little less. At the schools your cut takes a long time but at least there's an instructor there making sure the student does it correctly and to fix any mistakes - plus it's usually only $10 or $15 for a women's haircut with no tipping allowed.

No. I hit Supercuts 2-3 times a year in order to have someone make sure it's even in the back.

I do color my hair at home though. Doing it in a salon just seems so expensive for something so temporary.

No, I just haven't had my hair cut in four years and that saves money. I also color my own hair and only about once or twice per year. A box of hair color is about $15, so spend very little on my hair.

Considering my haircuts generally don't cost more than $20.00 w/tip included, and I only get a haircut 2-4 times a year, I don't see it as a big savings. When I was in Chicago I could get it done for $8.00 w/tip included.

Although I have cut my own hair before. I had a set of clippers w/all the attachments. Definitely very hard, and not something you should try unless you're doing something like a basic no-fade, no length variation, buzzcut.

If you are a woman and only spend $200 a year that is bang up screaming frugalness!

I've been cutting my own high and tights for 15 years.

Started doing it not for financial savings, but for convince.

I can be done and in the shower in less time than it would take to drive to the barber.
And I can do it at 11PM.

And I do it better too.

Same here. Under 20 bucks, maybe 8 times a year. Not worth it. Plus I'd look like the guy in DirecTV's "don't sell your hair" commercial!
