I am trying to get rid of my Verizon cell phone plan which is raping me of $100/month to a less expensive phone only plan. Has anyone tried this ?

I use net 10 and spend about $15 - $20 per month on my cell phone - I am not much of a cell phone user (I have a land line too) and am now up to 3,000 roll over minutes. I like it because you can do international calling with it.

Not familiar with it. I have an Oohma which is a VOIP. You connect it to your internet and router, and then you can plug regular phones into your phone line and use just like land line. I have a cheap T-Mobile prepaid that I keep for use when I need it when I'm out, but can go a year (1000 minutes) with one card for $100 for the year. The Oohma cost is buying the unit $180 plus either $4.00 mo in taxes or $14.00 if you chose to have more features.

I mostly use the home phone (Oohma for most of my calling though)

I lowered my Verizon minutes last month. I downloaded Skype on my iPhone and computers. When I'm home or near Wifi I use Skype instead of my cell minutes. I use the North American Unlimited plan for $2.99 a month for unlimited. Now I only use about 300 minutes of my cell plan because I'm near wifi very often.

Yes. Look up Page Plus Cellular. They are a no-contract cell phone company.

I used them for a few years until I got a smartphone. My mother still uses them. I think her average usage is about $10/month. Look here for the Standard Plan, where you pay for a block of minutes - as little as 4 cents per minute.

And get this: they use Verizon's towers! You can activate your old Verizon phone on their service and get mostly the same coverage.
