You know, I just thought about it and it's possible that "winning" isn't confined to a prize in a drawing.

I've won a couple of awards for acting. One for Best Actress, a couple of Best supporting, both from the Northeastern Penna Theatrical Alliance, and one in a state competition for Best Female. Does that count?

While not "expensive" in terms of money, they certainly are priceless to me.

Nope! Odds are too bad.

The tickets for the tuition raffle were fairly expensive, ($25 each or 5 for $100, if I remember correctly) so I guess most parents bought one or none. I bought $500 worth, figuring if I lost, the school could use the money. It seems stuffing the box with 25 chances paid off.

The other stuff cost nothing to enter.

I "won" many (mostly small) scholarships when I went to college (Graduated with BS degree in 2009) that, combined with Pell grants (no loans!), payed all of my tuition and some of my living expenses. I don't think of much as "winning" them. I had to keep my GPA way up and take the time to fill out scholarship applications.

A few weeks ago my boyf won a nice high quality camping tent at a raffle at gear sale event. We have plenty of tents already so we sold it to a friend for $150.

Perhaps "earned" is a better way to describe scholarships.

I didnt win it but I was there. A few friends and I went to riverside(theme park) and they had a drawing for a sting ray corvette. Everyone picked a key out of a box and when my friend sat down and threw the key in, it started up! I think he sold it a few months later for around 12 grand if i remember correctly.

Those were the days when $200 paid for a full semester of college tuition.

--I once won a turkey at work right before Thanksgiving. I'm a vegetarian.

--I won one of those "send the balloons off and see which one goes the farthest" contests in elementary school. My balloon was found off the coast of New Jersey (I lived outside of Philly at the time). I think I won $5.

--I once won a $100 gift card from a club raffle.

--A new supermarket opened up down the street from where I worked. They had a raffle for a new car at their grand opening, and my co-worker won it.

--My husband won a bicycle at a work conference.

a while back Amex had a "contest" where you could use rewards points to buy things that were normally much more expensive. for example some sony home theater setup was 5000 points, normally like 500,000 pts. you had to be the first person to purchase the item because there was only 1 or maybe 5 available and probably a few hundred thousand people trying to get on their website at the same time. ayway i ended up winning the home theater setup, LCD tv, etc. which I ended up selling for maybe 3000 bucks. I really wanted the wave runner though!!!
