I may have started a thread a long time ago about this, but cannot find it...

I have a bit of an issue with consigning clothing... I have done it a few times, with some really high end dresses of my daughter's but that is pretty much it, I just would rather donate our items to other family members or organizations that help those in need.

I have a friend who consigns, everything (clothing wise ) and donates or hands down nothing. This is her choice of course, but it just seems to work my nerves that she refers to it as donating. To me, donating is not receiving anything in return. She says she is helping others by consigning? Who is she helping , honestly?
She is making 40% split on her things and even if it is a minimal amount of money, she is still making something- right?
She sometimes uses the money in the same store to purchase things but sometimes not.
She is free of course to do what she wants with her older clothing and with her money, but to me, it is not a donation at all and I wish people would stop referring to it as that.

For the most part, the people shopping consignment are not in dire need, they are middle class families, looking dor deals on clothing, a very small % of those truly in need, are shopping there.
If you want to donate to those who really need the help, then you donate with no expectation of anything in return. iMO.
