Do you dye your hair? Loreal costs about $9 a treatment. If your hair is not too long, you can get two treatments out of each box.

Save the bottles from your previous box, and pour half of the new batch into the old bottles for next time.

Not a big deal, but with all the good tips here, things like this add up.

That's what I do. But my color cost $4.79 from Sally Beauty supply store. Half of that + developer + conditioner = $3.00 a treatment!!

I'm glad you found a cheaper product that works reliably.

I tried some cheaper ones and had poor coloring response, so I went back to brand name.

Indeed.

As a general question... how often does one have to dye their hair?

Those are all well known professional products they use in the beauty salons, like Ion, Clairol, Revlon, L'Oreal, Wella ... e.g. Hair Color at SallyBeauty.com
At beauty supply you can buy salon-quality products and tools for a fraction of the cost. And the best part is that the employees are all licensed cosmetologists so they know what they're talking about when they recommend products to you.

Be Free, no, you don't need a license to buy at Sally - at least not where I live. I am thinking of trying Henna. I am tired of putting chemicals on my head. It's about 7$ but not sure how long it lasts.

I did this for years recycling two baby food jars for the left overs. I kept an old measuring cup to measure it out in. Now I am letting my hair go grey. Unless I don't like it when it is grown out..
