Last thing I want is a wallet full of plastic and spending half an hour going thru them and figuring out which one the store I'm in will take!
I was thinking there is only one small fee when you buy it, and they can be used like debit cards. So you can buy most anything you need: groceries, coffee to go, and probably you could get prepaid bus passes. The "cards" can probably be purchased in multiples of $25 or something, so if you have $200, it's one card. And they can be used a little at a time. If you don't like AMEX, admittedly not accepted exactly everywhere, use one of the others, accepted in more places. Beats writing checks.

PS: Just realized there may be some confusion: Credit card gift cards are for money, not like getting one for your local department store, where they are only good at that store. Hope that helps.

Just a thought for you, since you were looking for ideas.

Pretty soon we will be cashless and that thought really alarms me
