My goal is to pay cash but not because it's hard for me to get a mortgage. I'm going to do it because I don't want the debt.

We've cut our housing costs by $165 per month doing this-

We have someone living outside our house paying rent. His 33 ft trailer has a generator/solar panels. We got him from Craiglist add I placed. He pays $175 per month. We Provide basic electricity to keep his laptop and cell phone charged but that wasn't part of the deal. Our electricity has not went up. He waters his garden, washes the car and bathes every few days using our ditch water (which is almost free, just the electricity to run it thru the hose)

And he has his weights set up in the garage...also not part of the deal but it doesn't bother us, we have the room.

How poor people like me live without Craigslist is beyond me

He bathes in your ditch water?! I'm guessing he doesn't have an office job, right?

The stock market.

There are hardly any (if any at all) 30 year periods (the length of time of your mortgage) that you wouldn't have averaged 6% per year over that 30 year period.

My mortgage is 2.75%. Fixed. No way would I pay down a 2.75% mortgage.
