Glad you have a system. Here's the thing I always try and remember though... if I cannot really remember what I wore the week before, chances are slim anyone else is going to remember it either. Unless it is particularly unique and stands out for some reason.
When I find myself worrying about this I try and remember what other people I know have worn in the past few days, and usually I cannot, so I assume they cannot either.
You are right. Most people are not going to be aware of it if I wear the same thing week after week when I'm only there once a week. However, I prefer to vary the clothing and have found a simple way to do that. I am not obsessed about it. In my particular case, though, I have to stand up in front of two different groups and give a 30-minute presentation to each one. In that case, they may remember a little more if I wear the same thing all the time. Still, it's not super important.
Male here. Age 69, retired from full-time work. Not very fashion-conscious, but like to look professional when appropriate. I need to be at a certain location (professionally related) once a week and don't want to wear the same thing every week; I can't really reliably remember what I wore the week before, so I have a four-way rotating system which I mark on my calendar with the color of my dress slacks: navy, grey, black, and brown. Then shirts and ties vary to reasonably match the slacks. It may sound extreme to write on the calendar, but it's really quite simple and has become a routine. I have had the different colored slacks for many years, so why not rotate them?
My husband, who is somewhat OCD, wears his regular clothes in order. Sometimes, it ends up being sort of funny, like when he wears a long sleeve shirt on Wednesday when it is 90 degrees outside and the next day a short sleeve Hawaiian shirt is next and it is a cold, damp 55 degrees outside. But it make him happy so who cares.
Thankful places like church, weddings, funerals, etc have a different group of clothes that are rotated.
BTW Hawaiian shirts are only in the rotation from April 5 to October 5, as Wisconsin winters can get pretty chilly.
Seems ridiculous to me. Clothing is relatively inexpensive. It was not always that way. Granny tells me that in the Great Depression a woman wore the same dress to work every day, that's all she owned (maybe a second one for church, but that's it).
Of course, Granny did something else that most people forget about today. She probably also wore a full slip/camisole underneath to help keep that dress fresh, and then changed into houseclothes when she got home (hanging the dress up to air overnight) until the weekend washing. Similarly, aprons were used to keep clothing clean for multiple wearings. Men would use work overalls and aprons in a similar way.
Haha... I was issued 7 pairs of pants from Fedex back in 2003 and I still wear them. They are the most comfortable and durable pants I've owned. My family all make fun of me. Over the years I've stained them painting , spray foaming or doing car work, and put holes in the pockets mostly by putting screws in the pockets, but never put a hole in the pants (knees for example) themselves. Jeans are usually too stiff, and I wear a hole in them after a few months anyway. I have some Dickies shorts that are probably from the same era. I toss out T-shirts when they get gross. My winter jacket is also from about 2001, was not cheap but has lasted. North face mountain guide or something.
While I have different clothes they are all basically the same but in various colors and whatnot. It's easier to dress for work when I have a basic "uniform" and since I'm hard to fit (tall girl) I buy multiples of things I do find. Mostly blacks and neutrals with a couple colorful things thrown in for variety.
Why would anyone be embarassed by gym wear??? I wear the same two outfits to the gym, either black or grey stretch capris with either a pink or green oversized tshirt. I get 8 different looks though...haha. I'd only have one gym outfit but sometimes I don't get around to laundry fast enough.

I think you and I are the same person, except for the oversized tshirt at the gym.
I have about 10 pairs of pants in neutral colors that are almost all the same brand and then summer and winter tops to match. I do get rid of things if they are torn or stained or really out of style, but I have a pretty standard look. I also have about 5 pairs of shoes that I wear to work. I hate to shop and I hate to spend money on clothes, so this is what has evolved over the years.
Yes, I could care less what complete strangers I see in day to day life think and if the people who know me have an issue than maybe I shouldn't know them. Most of the few nice outfits I had were lost in baggage during a flight to Chicago. I've never bothered to replace them as I seldom go anywhere that isn't casual here.
If I were to run across an item of clothing I really liked, I would buy it but that seldom happens. I am just way past investing in my image since my current job requires a uniform.
I do wear the same clothes but I mix it up a bit with other clothes I have. I don't have a lot of clothes compared to most girls I know, but I try to work with what I have.
If I'm going to wear the exact same outfit, I wear it around different people when I'm going to different places. Like, if I wore an outfit to hang out with friends, I'll probably wear it again at church the next day since there are different people at church but I wouldn't wear that exact same outfit I wore before to hang out with friends, if I was meeting up with friends again haha.
I have very few clothes compared to most people, so does my husband. Together our clothes don't fill a small closet and one dresser. It seems like a lot of clothes to me, though. We're retired so don't need a work wardrobe. All of our clothes are casual wear.
