Wow, so many negative nellies out there. Saving thousands in taxes counts as maximum results in my book. No mortgage, no debt of any kind, exploring the continent are bonuses. Yes, some thinking is required. I have a brain and don't mind using it. People do it all the time. It's called full timing. You set up one or more bases. You don't stay more than 6 months at one location except the main domicile. I think I just answered my own question.

How do you figure you will save thousands? Everyone has already told you that you will pay NM taxes.

You expect everyone on a public message board to agree with you?
By the way - I know of many full-timers who have no main domicile at all except for their home on wheels. I'll be one of them in a few months.
And there's no hard and fast 6 month rule, unless you're a Canadian or other non-citizen. As Stealth Rabbit said above South Dakota requires a one night stay to establish residency and you never have to go back.
If you want the lowest tax burden in the western US - choose Alaska or Wyoming.

You're still probably domiciled somewhere and considered a full year resident for tax purposes. Most state's consider you domiciled within the state, unless you establish a domicile elsewhere.

Yes ^^^. Setting up 'Camp' in NM looks a lot like establishing residency. More so if you work / spend Credit Card $$ or use a cell phone or internet, or get a library card from your NM campsite.

Many of us have been doing this for decades, including during our working yrs. It doesn't require much thinking, but it helps to RESEARCH and to be 'Stealth' about it. (and legal, of course)
My understanding is, if there are no permanent utility connections and the "domicile" is on wheels it's not a domicile for tax purposes; just a plot of land with a storage container. The RV gets pumped out monthly at a facility and refilled with water for nominal fees. Energy requirements are much lower than even a small house but it is cramped hence the 40' container/living room. Solar panels & generator take care of energy and there's satellite internet.
A typical RV hold 30 to 50 gals of water and has holding tanks approximately the same size.
Obviously you need to do a lot more research.
