Haircuts cost too much (sale, price, market)

Usually the barber shops around here give discounts on their slow days, usually Tuesday or Wednesday mornings. $7.00.

If you think haircuts are too expensive then go purchase a pair of hair clippers (25$ at walmart) and cut your own. I did that in college and saved probably close to 1000 bucks over 4 years just on haircuts. Out of college I like to keep my hair nice and I find a 17$ haircut (including tip) is well worth it for me, it makes me look presentable to clients and in meetings with colleagues. Women spend more money on their hair, we are talking all day events that could cost upwards of 100 bucks. I recall walking into a spa near my place a few weeks ago asking for a simple haircut, probably would be done with me in 5-7 minutes, they quoted me 50 dollars and I simply said, "have a nice day".

I've always avoided getting my hair cut. I go maybe four times a year. There are "barbers" but they are rare and I'm scared to go an unfamiliar one. Is it true that "barber shops" are rarer all the time?

After my DH came home with a truly terrible haircut, one side much different and shorter than the other (was the barber drunk?), we invested in some professional scissors and I have learned how to give him a pretty good haircut which he likes (me, too).

I cut my own hair and get it cut professionally once a year, mostly to see that I'm doing almost as good as the pros. I've easy hair to cut--curly, hikes most mistakes. My DH evens out the back for me.

Guess we save a whole bunch by our home-brewed cuts.

For me it wasn't the money. I got fed up after bad cuts from salons, barbers, friends sisters, so I finally began cutting my own. Also the time involved with going somewhere, making an appointment, etc. annoyed me. It took a few times but I figured out a system that gives me the same look each time. I use 2 pair of scissors and 2 mirrors. Cost=$0

I go to a traditional barber shop, that is open Sundays so I go that morning when it's not too busy. They recently went up from $15 to $17, with tip I just give them a $20. Considering I go only about every 3 months it's not a big deal. Most people around here go to a stylist and pay $25-30 once a month.
Some old timers go weekly and are almost bald. That I can't understand.

I cut my husband's hair. I've done it for probably 14 years. He needs a haircut every 2 weeks, so if you figure $10 per haircut, that's $3600 we've saved over the years, even taking into account the three sets of clippers I've had to buy over the years.

Right. Whatever you say. I get my hair cut by a barber (wash, cut, dry/style) for $15.

There is a mom and pop near me that does it for $5. I pretty much just get a 15 minute buzz cut.

Stop complaining, just be glad that you have hair. I always tell people I have to cut my hair once every 3 weeks or so while most of the guys I work with trim their scalp every other day.
