some of those so called unlimited data plans like you said are limited to 5 gigs like you said some even worse like 3 gigs. the need to read the TOS before they sighn up for the service and find there account being disconnected because they went over there data alotment

Funny, I've heard drug addicts say the same thing.

I would find other places to cut back before I give up internet. We have school age kids in the house and it is a necessity. I'd change my A/C and heating standards, drop cable, go to 4 nights a week meatless rather than the 2 or 3 we do now, find a cheaper but still healthy pet food, cut or mowing service to only once a month and we do it other times, sell a bunch of stuff just taking up room in the house, cut down on clothes for the kids and all sorts of other things we really aren't that careful with.

I would not give up your internet.

I would call up AT&T and ask them to lower your rate.

I'm going though the same thing - Comcast has basically doubled my internet fees in the past year. you have to negotiate them down. All you need to do is ask.

if you use internet for adult material, you won't be able to access it at free wi-fi sites. if you only use it for general stuff, then you can try using it for free at the library or starbucks, etc.

If you are doing any banking (even just checking your balance) or online shopping I definitely would not use a public access wi-fi. The guy sitting next to you could be mining your data, credit card number, bank accounts, passwords. For that alone I keep our AT&T, where like you, it is our only choice besides cable. But since I refuse to pay for TV (talk about an addiction! 8 antenna channels is not enough?) the cable company is not any cheaper.
