Went to the store and the ground beef bin was empty! So I dusted off my Spanish and asked and they brought out more. Ended up with 11 lbs of hamburger, 3 lbs ham, and 2 lbs bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes. All for $44. Pretty good, considering.
Making a big pot of sauce today and the rest of the ground beef is divided into packets in the freezer.
The USDA says six ounces, most sources I trust say four, so I posted it as a spread. I hadn't seen any that said three but I'll take your word for it that they're out there.
I remember when the McDonald's Quarter Pounder was a HUGE sandwich. These days it seems pretty small compared to other offerings.

I stopped and picked my daughter up a quarter pounder last, week sandwich only, with tax it came to 4.11 and it was not nearly the size it used to be.
Seriously, hamburger is $6 per lb here. What are you paying and why is it so high? And that's just for regular hamburger. The lean stuff is even higher. And I haven't seen a package of hamburger in the bargain bin for ages.
I like pork and chicken but I really miss my beef. After combing through all the circulars I found a Thursday only sale on ground beef for $2.99/lb. Guess I will go and get some. Every now and then, I just NEED meatloaf!
An appropriate serving size for beef is 4-6 ounces.

Define appropriate. Don't get me wrong, I am fine with a 3 oz. portion of beef, but there is no such thing as an appropriate portion, within reason.
I mean, if I eat beef 3-4 times in a week, I am probably going to find 3-4 ounce portions fine. On the other hand if I haven't eaten beef for a month, a 10 oz. porterhouse is in order.
Feed prices - corn, that is - is high because the EPA mandates high percentages of ethanol be blended into the gasoline. Thus, a huge proportion of our corn crop ends up in our cars, rather than our mouths.

Well, it's a free country, and you can certainly do what you want.
But from a nutritional standpoint fasting for an extended period doesn't offset over-eating in one setting. In fact, eating a large serving of beef after not eating beef at all for a month will probably be a significant shock to your system. Don't plan to stray too far from the bathroom when you do that.
