Are you an extreme couponer at the grocery store? Can you get up to a $100 in groceries for a few dollars?

Here is a link with more information on how people are doing this:

Beginners Guide to Using Coupons - Extreme Couponing -Living Rich With Coupons®

Is this a logical and fair way to a frugal lifestyle, or instead just an attempt to get things you really don't need in an underhanded way using weaknesses in a system designed to advertise merchandise?

Your thoughts on extreme couponing.

Most stores are not as 'coupon friendly' as they used to be.

Taking anything to the extreme is not good.

If somebody can make it work, I think it's great. As for me, I do not have the energy or time.

Tried it once.

It takes an inordinate amount of time and effort.

Good for them!

To me it just seems like too much thinking, time, and work - especially if I have to get a bunch of brands I don't usually like to use.

Some people make it a part time job and can save hundreds over a years time. Think it's great and wish I had that much excitement but it's just me and don't buy that much stuff. Seems like the bigger the family the more a woman would do this. Great idea.

I say "good for them"

Most everything we do is a trade of between time and money. It takes time to cut and sort all the coupons, so the 'savings' is the pay for doing that job.

I don't like the bad press that coupon user get. In the OP the word "underhanded" was used - why? It's available for anyone to use coupons and cut their grocery bill, so why use a word that makes it sound negative?

Getting items you don't need - who says what someone needs. You can look at someone with 12 bottles of shampoo in their cart, with 12 coupons for that shampoo - is that their stocking up when they can get it cheap? Is that their donation to shelters? You don't know, neither do I, so why are people so judgmental?

You can't say the stores don't like it, they get extra money for processing the coupons; some stores quit printing their own and just double whatever coupons you have, so it's got to be cost effective for them. If the cashier has a problem with it, they should find another job - it does not effect their ring rate (how cashiers are evaluated.)
