Two years ago I paid $150 for this laptop at Staples (it was on sale):
Asus x250t (mine's the "t" version...if that makes a difference)

The touted 12 hour battery, as well as the price, swayed me to buy it. I use it for hours and hours every day and it's been great. I will say the battery is more like 8-10 hours (I really haven't checked it). I'm very happy with it. But mostly I'm just surfing, writing and doing OpenOffice things.

Here's an interesting article about it.

I haven't bought a laptop/notebook since 1998. I get mine for free from people who have broken theirs and are buying new ones. I fix them and use them. I have a stack of them, probably last me until I die. If the HDD is junk and I can't recover anything from it, I put in a new one and slap some flavor of Linux on it.

Used a promo code for a purchase at Fry's a few months ago:

Got Dell Latitude 2120 (refurbished) for $89.

It still works great.
