Verizon prepaid unlimited talk/text dropped their rate to $30/mo. before taxes and fees in November. Check to see if you are getting the latest rate.
Yes, you are correct. However, the $30 plan does not include data (you can use Wi-Fi though). I have the talk/text/data plan (my error for not stating my plan correctly).

You get unlimited talk/text and some data on a smartphone for $35 a month? How much do you get, and how did you get it?
The Verizon Prepaid service plan for $15 or $30 gives you unlimited data on basic phones. I assume it is at 2G speeds. 2G Data Transmission Capacity:With GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), you have a theoretical transfer speed of max. 50 kbit/s (40 kbit/s in practice).

I don't have a smart phone...I have a dumb phone. It's one of those 'old fashioned' flip style phones (that I prefer), and thanks to you I decided that since I don't use the data on the phone, just use talk/text I'll get the cost reduced to $30, thank you!!

My mother was on a Verizon Postpaid account modified since 2004. She has a flip phone that she bought in 2007. Last November she was paying $25 + $5.70 taxes and fees for 700 minutes and unlimited texts. She doesn't like the phone much and uses it about 1400 minutes in a year. I saw that the Verizon Prepaid reduced their price to $30 for unlimited talk and text + unlimited 2G data (which is really only good for getting news/weather flashes in text format)
Although it was nominally a $5 increase to go to unlimited, the taxes and fees were lower so it actually brought the increase to under $3. I switched her thinking that she would have unlimited talk for only $3 more, so if she ever gave up her home wired phone she could.
But after three weeks, I realized she wouldn't give up her home phone unless God commanded her. I noticed the 300-unit plan no longer had a penalty price for overages (i.e. 45 cents per minute/text when you cross the 300-units for the month). They simply make you start a new 300-unit plan earlier than you planned.
So bottom line if you go to the 300-unit plan and you renew less than 24 times in a year (minimum is 12 times), then you were coming out ahead. So if you are not a heavy talker you could save money here as well.
300-unit plan includes a combination of up to 300 voice minutes or text/multimedia message sent or received.
01/21/2016: $15 + $2.55 taxes and fees
12/25/2015: $15 + $2.55 taxes and fees
12/05/2015: $30 + $3.45 taxes and fees
One small consideration is you should wait until your 30 days are almost up before switching to the $15 plan. They don't transfer your balance. I did it 10 days early, and you just lose those 10 days.
So if she uses up the 300 minutes earlier, I just start the cycle a few days early.
It's a little nuisance since you have to watch the account, but if you use less than 7000 minutes and texts in a year, you could save some more money.
Currently I'm on Straight Talk. Unlimited texts and calls with 5 gb of data for basically $50
$50 a MONTH?!
