I was in a drug store today browsing through their sale section of holiday items, there were signs posted showing what was on sale and what was not. I was just looking, not sure if I would actually buy any of this stuff because we have enough holiday stuff already. There was a female store clerk working on one of the aisles. She approached me and said in a condescending tone "just so you know not everything is seventy-five percent off, okaaayyyy??" And she drew out the word "okay" in a way that let me know she wanted me to say "okay" back to her. I found it rude because 1) I hadn't spoken to her or asked her any question and 2) she was making assumptions about what I was looking to buy, assuming I could only afford to buy sale items and 3) she was pretty much demanding that I respond back to her after she talked to me like I was a young child. So I told her "I can read the signs for myself". And she smirked at me and rolled her eyes. I wish now I had added to that "and mind your own business".

She may have had 10 people that day who marched up to the cash register with something that was NOT 75% off and were disappointed, upset, irritated, etc. that it wasn't. So she figured she'd give you advance warning.

You're probably right. My son used to work at CVS. Customers could get really nasty about sale item confusion and their expired coupons.

And that's not really my problem. It's hers.

Not my issue.

When those things happen to me, I think about the clerk - and I think others are right, they must get a lot of people who misunderstand the sale items, and was trying to be helpful to you and the other cashiers.

I also think - "if this is the worse thing that happens to me today - life is good!"
