That includes all my expenses (rent for 1br apt, Obamacare health insurance - no subsidy, medications - $225 monthly, car insurance, food, utilities, etc.).
I haven't put my numbers together yet -
what are you going to do with your numbers? Are you using them to see where you can save? Or do a life style change? Are you setting a new goal for 2017?
I track my expenditures via Fidelity's Full View. It's free. I can see a pie chart that breaks out my expenditures by category. Healthcare and rent make up 75% of my expenses.
So, yes, I use this to cut expenses.
I lowered my monthly insurance premium for 2017 by $60 by switching to the lowest Obamacare policy. I've never used my policy beyond a couple vaccinations that I got at Walgreens.
I am also considering moving to a shared apartment living space that will cut my rent nearly in half ($645 to $363), where the utilities would also be less.

we can easily meet our expenses , but it is all our discretionary spending we try to stay within .
being retired and having 4 grand kids and all this time we can easily exceed 2x our income trying to do all the things we would like .

I've been tracking my expenses all last year. The average is close to $1,000 a month, but my house and car are paid for, my insurance 100% paid by work, no cable, and I stay home and out of the stores.
I did have a "splurge" last week. I bought new theater seating (two recliners), as my sofa dates back to 1992 and it was killing my back.

Have you considered travel hacking at all? If you are fond of traveling its a good way of traveling almost for free.
This year, even though I spent 14000 dollars (in reality about 9000 because 5k were IRA) I went to Europe once twice in the past 12 months... I was able to pay my grandmother to come visit me from Europe and also my wife and her mother went to Venice on me as well. So in essence, 6 Round-trip flights that I was able to provide
