I thought I'd add this. Some of the stores like Kroger have online coupons. You can get on there and load them to an account. It is possible to get coupons on store brand items. That is pretty much the only way I coupon any more unless I see a coupon for free stuff or $1 or more. It takes less than five minutes to do it.

Haagan Dazs is the best. No other ice cream will do. Maybe McDonald's ice cream is a close contender.

While I will splurge on Talenti gelato for special occasions, our 'everyday' ice cream is the organic Publix Greenwise brand that seems to show up as a gallon (2x half gallon packages) for $8 promotion every 3-5 weeks.

IMO, the better line of grocery store brand ice creams are often a lot better than Breyers and the like.

I shop at Aldis as much as possible but when I'm at the regular grocery store, I hit the main areas for sale prices. Today I cleaned up on Campbells chunky for $1.50/can, Annie's Macaroni for $.88/box, and spaghetti for $.75/lb. The crazy thick chuck eyes for $5/lb was a nice bonus.

The seasonal appetizers that Aldi gets can be really good. I bought a bunch of their frozen sashimi and it was actually really good. It was only a Xmas holiday seasonal though. The bacon wrapped scallops were good as a well.

Years ago my son worked in a factory that made baby formula, his job was to watch the line where the machines filled the containers. He said that they would fill 10,000 or 20,000 containers with Enfamil, then they would stop the line and put containers with CVS or some other store brand and fill a certain amount of those, stop the line again and start up the line with yet another brand of formula. And the exact same product went in the all of the containers, only change was the packaging

I'm not saying that all generics are like that but I'm guessing that it's fairly common

I FORGOT ABOUT THAT ONE. Haagan Dazs i will not get any other brand. Same goes for ghirardelli chocolate. There's no substitute.

As far as medications, the main difference between name brand and generic is the inactive ingredients; and depending on the type of med or one's condition, generics would not give the same result.

For things like canned veggies, tomato sauce, pasta, beans, condensed soups, frozen veggies, I generally get the store brand.

Mayo, chocolate, English muffins (Thomas), butter (kerrygold), I stick to the good stuff.

I don't buy ice cream often because it's a non-necessity (luxury treat).
