Best alternatives to cable television? (old, money)

I find it amusing that the suggestion of "no TV" as a cheaper alternative to cable TV went flying out into the ether as if I had written it in Linear B or something.
Hey y'all, put the remote down and step away from the tube. There's an entire world out there that doesn't fit on even the biggest of big screen TVs.
Way back in the 1960's it was generally believed that people did step away from television for the summer months. There was no new episodes of serial television from the end of the season (April to June) and the first few weeks in September.
With internet television you can start and stop your service. You can give yourself a break. And possibly you may find that your life is better with longer breaks.
I don't want to pay for any of those, so I wait for them to become available either through the tablet, or I even just rent them at a local video store.
I watch many for free on my library's DVDs. Can borrow for 1 week, and even renew if no one has put a hold/request on it! Online account/catalog is super handy for searching for titles, putting on hold and renewing. They notify me by email when I can come in and pick up titles at the desk.
I have tried multiple antennas and the Clearstream 2v has worked the best so far. We also have a Roku device that seems to have hundreds of apps. I'm currently trying various streaming services and my favorite so far is PlayStation Vue (they have Discovery Channel)

I just registered my Sony Bluray, and it has playstation vue online. Where is it within the player though? Is it called SEN? Sony Entertainment network? Under Opera TV?
