What type of cell phone do you all have and with what carrier?

As crazy as it sounds, I have 2 tracfones (pay as you go and I just add money to them about every month and a half). They both were 19.99 when I bought them!

I still have a house phone and use that mostly. I only use the cell phone when I'm outside and need to make a phone call, which isn't often
T Mobile, prepaid. Costs about $100 a year.

Moto X Pure - Page Plus Cellular - Calling Mart automatic refill

$34.00 a month sometimes less if I change the plan or more if I go on vacation and want more. In this order, I wanted Verizon Towers, Motorola Pure and no contract with flexibility. The customer service is meh but I had Sprint for 15 years and it was very rare that I received good customer service.

Tracfone. I pay for minutes as I need them (and I rarely need them), and buy a year of service for $80. This particular phone is a triple-minute phone. The minutes never expire. Essentially, for the past few years I've paid $80/year. The phone itself cost $20.

This is exactly what I have as well. All I've had for about 3 years now.

My husband has a smart phone, but has the most basic plan. I think he gets 300 minutes a month for talking and only uses data if he is in a location with wifi.

We don't have a house phone.

More than we need. Combined, I think it costs about $40/month

"...almost REQUIRED," no. But it makes people feel they are the size of a Macy's Parade balloon to think so.

UM, YES.
It WAS REQUIRED for MOH {My Other Half} to get one for work. In order to punch in/out out in the field, a smart phone WAS REQUIRED. We get a 5% plan discount {whoopie!} for using Verizon for our smart phones, BECAUSE MOH's job REQUIRES it.
Mine was NOT REQUIRED, but why have one dumb phone and one smart one? Might as well move into today's world...and indeed, for MY new job, a smart phone app is needed to access the employee services/benefits associated with my new j-o-b. My GM asked for my email {there is one associated with every smart phone if you don't know}, and asked for an email "that goes everywhere you do"...meaning my smart phone's email.

SO YES, it IS required, or almost so....as stated in the post you object to.

Macy's balloons have naught to do with me/us having one. WORK REQUIREMENTS do.

As a non smart phone user (but I have envy) I assume you can't get Uber and Lyft without a smart phone, right? You have to be able to install the app?

I think I'd like to have that capability because we travel lots.

No, one time I was at a Farmer's Market and I got a call. They looked at me like I was an alien for having a cellphone.

Later that year we upgraded to a smart phone so we could swipe CCs. It is more a curse than a blessing though. At every FM there should be one vendor who can take CCs. But that vendor needs to start the day with a large bankroll.

More and more tourists carry no cash, so they only have CCs. Anyone who can swipe a CC becomes an ATM.

I just did a google search for uber in my state, kind of surprised to see that it has had a 'launch' in one city, 4 hours away.

I would assume that for uber you need to stay fairly urban.

I have 3 cheap Android phones that I can use with my Tracfone SIM card.
So I always have a backup phone on hand:
Tracfone Samsung Galaxy Core Prime bought from Tracfone website for $25.
Verizon Samsung Galaxy J1 bought on sale for $30.
Net 10 Samsung Galaxy Sky J3 bought on a mismark sale price for $10.75. It's a $140 phone. (Yes, it works with a Tracfone SIM card.)

I use the phones a lot for wifi, camera, GPS, ebooks, etc.

I also have a Tracfone flip phone that my boyfriend uses sometimes (he doesn't care about cell phones much). Costs about $60-$70/yr to keep it going.

For a "landline" phone we use a Google Voice number and an Obi100 box hooked up to the modem at home to make free calls over the internet. This has worked great for us for about 4 years now.
Out of all your phones, which has the best reception? I think its time for me to purchase a NEW PHONE from tracfone, because the on im using now doesn't work.
