I was looking to buy a toaster yesterday at Target and noticed they only had one toaster for $34.99 which made go to another Target. The other Target had the same toaster for $34.99 and my account would not let me buy a normal looking toaster for that much money. So I see CVS across the street and they had one toaster on the shelf for only $17.37. That price was a lot better than Target's but I still felt I could get a better price and decided to go to Rite Aid. Then once I arrived in Rite Aid it was one toaster on the shelf and the price after taxes was $14.34 All it took was patience and I was able to find a toaster for $20 less than what was in Target which made me feel leaving the store.

You're correct - it 'pays' to shop around.

Am curious though, were the price variations for the same type of toaster and brands?

For even cheaper, you could have looked at the Salvation Army.

OTOH, the cheapest option is not necessarily the most frugal option. Even with toasters.

Yes it was the same type of toaster which was not for a Bagel just regular bread which is why I was surprised it was high.

Our screaming toaster deal was the $40 one we found in a secondhand store. It's a Dualit that goes for $300+ new, and looked to be essentially unused when we found it.

Our theory is that someone got it as a wedding present and didn't like it because it's entirely mechanical and you have to use a level to push the toast out of it manually when it's done.

Drug stores are the worst place to shop for small appliances. The worst.

The quality alone never mind pricing.

My cousin wanted me to go to Family Dollar to get a toaster.

Why the head smack? Because it's Family Dollar? No different than getting one at a drug store. Probably the same appliance you paid almost double for...

Walmart also has basic toasters for $7.
