It would appear that you're comparing apples to oranges since the more expensive gym offers much more so you're getting more for your money, assuming you'll use those features.
Being frugal doesn't mean deprivation. It simply means getting the best value for your money.
If all 3 facilities offered the same services that you want but the more costly one had more services than you would use, that would be considered wasteful
Most people who buy gym memberships don't use them past the first couple of weeks, but they are contracted for those payments for an entire year. So, the most important question is: are you absolutely sure you will use the membership every month?
Adults with swimming pools don't use them very much and they don't have to drive to another location to use their own. Most people who buy treadmills and other expensive exercise equipment use them as clothes hangers.
Unless you are sure you will both use the membership, that's a lot of money to pay for good intentions.
Thrifty suggestion. Look around to see if there is a time share close to you that has weight room and pool. After market time shares are very cheap and often free. Annual dues are usually in the range of $500-$800 and with some of them, you can use the facilities all year round if you own a time share.

I haven't considered time shares. That's an interesting idea.
frugal means something different to everyone: my step mom spent her entire life trying to get blood out of the turnip. I doubt there was one exception when she let her frugality, if you can call it that down. She and my dad traveled a lot but the cheapest way possible.
As for me, I am, what I call frugal when it comes to most things: it means I combine errands to save on gas, we do not go out to eat much and if we do I try to use coupons. I only buy what is on sale but there is one place I do splurge: I love good quality meat and am willing to pay for it. We might eat beans for a couple of night to offset the cost of the meat, but when it is meat it is good meat.
